because he didn't want any losses on his record, same as why he stayed in wales for years fighting nationals as a so called world titlist.
Yup ! I'm sure Bailey will defend him just like he just tried to make a guy with only 9 KO's into Tyson:nut
point taken but the wiser man surely knows why theres a glass ceiling to joes opponents for 10 years before even lacy.
cause if joe had fought bigger earlier, despite the inevitable 2 or 3 losses, I would respect him more than eubank, but right now I have eubank and froch above him in the british smw tables, and porbably benn too. he remains however the number 1 welsh smw of all time, and probaly will be for a long time. given that no other smw from wales has fought for the title ever...
If you don't think that he carried Hopkins, you know nothing about Boxing. Not even RJJ in his prime shut out Bernard like that.
:think Lesser men did hurt Calzaghe... OTOH, less durable men than Calzaghe went the distance with Kovalev. (albeit the mere six-round distance in Avetisyan's case, and eight in Boone's...) One thing is for sure, it'd be a wild ride. Watching how Joe coped with Kovalev's style, pitting his work rate, rhythm-busting and agility against Kovalev's stalking, precision and power would be fascinating.
True, but I picked Kovalev to outbox Hopkins based on his timing and control of distance and I think he would also do a job on Calzaghe. Now people will point out that Hopkins wasn't throwing much back, but Calzaghe's lauded work rate would actually be his undoing in this one and lead to him being stopped. Kessler was having having success by taking half a step back, half a step to the side and then stepping back into that half a step distance and letting the right hand go, as when someone does this to Calzaghhe he spins on his heels looking for his man, squares up and walks onto a right hand as he comes forward. Let Calzaghe come forward throwing his flurries , jab or faint, step back, step side, step in - right. Very simple, but Calzaghe's kryptonite and perfect for someone with the style, range and power of Kovalev.
yes Kessler at home destroys joe, but well done joe for manning up to beat Kessler in cardiff once kess got injured
