    Hi everyone,

I'm new on here and have joined this site to speak about some of my favourite boxers, as Joe Calzaghe is one of them I thought my first post should be in the thread.

First off, you can tell who knows about boxing on here and who clearly doesn't. To say Joe ducked from Lacey is a joke, Calzaghe never ducked anybody. His plan was always to retire undefeated after winning belts at multiple weights, and that is exactly what he did.
Calzaghe destroyed Lacey just as he did Hopkins. I was in Vegas to watch the fight against Hopkins and the only thing Hopkins did apart from hang on to Joe for most of the fight was land a punch that put Joe down in the first round.
Joe took on and beat every super middle weight the world had to offer and beat every single one of them. To say his fights were ' Cherry picked' is laughable and proves that the person who said it knows nothing of boxing.
When he moved to light heavy he took on Hopkins who was a multiple world champion fighter. To say Joe left boxing in his prime, I don't think so, he was still a world class boxer but I don't believe he was in his prime. He won the WBO, IBF, WBC, WBA, and he won the Ring titles at 2 weights. He is the longest reigning super middle weight champion in history and defended his titles 21 times.

This pathetic argument about Joe and Kovelev is the talk of muppets who no nothing. Two fighters from different times, Kovelev at 31 and Joe at 42 wouldn't make a good match.

I look forward to the coments. Ha

Some fans are really die hard they see what they want to see. Hopkins wasn't even in top fitness for the fight, as he uncharacteristically gassed halfway through, while expending no more energy than he usually does, and taking absolutely no punishment what so ever. Hopkins landed damn near every significant punch of the fight. Upon video ****ysis he also buckled Calzaghe three times, outside of the knockdown. He even took the late round where he got the breather for the slap to the nads. Calzaghe landed between 40-50 punches all fight upon video ****ysis. It was one of Compu Boxes worst nights ever.

As I stated, some die hard fans see what they want to see. Calzaghe did little to nothing against a badly gassed Hopkins.

Keeping on topic, Calzaghe wouldn't of had anything for Kovalev, and his straight punches. Calzaghe probably gets stopped mid to late rounds by Kovalev.

Hopkins would have won if the fight had been a more lung friendly 10 rounder. trouble is Hopkins doent believe hes 40something.

more kind of Hopkins lost, joe didn't win. joe's skills are too far below Hopkins.

Hopkins struggled with cardio in the Wright fight as well.

no surprise with 40something lungs, that's why athletes in high cardio are retired by then.

this is why joe picked atgs at this age, when he knew his lung advantage would help him win in fights he would otherwise get destroyed in. still arguably joes best win is over this 40something opponent, well done joe for just s****ing a win.

    Great post!

I agree entirely with everything you've written.

That's exactly how I see things.

It'll be interesting to see what Bernard's got left.

But I watched Stevenson on Saturday, and I too just saw a basic fighter, with a great left hand.

If you can take his left away, which I appreciate is easier said than done, then there's a limited guy there.

He reminded me of Jeff Lacy a little. Obviously not in how they fight, but because each guy had one great asset, but apart from that, not much else.

So I could definitely envisage Bernard beating him, if he's got something left in the tank.

Also, like you've alluded to, Stevenson's stamina doesn't look great.

I think Pascal vs Stevenson could be a good fight.

I think if/when Kov fights Stevenson, Kov will definitely win.

At 31, Calzaghes resume was still superior

Forgetting of course, how Hopkins backed out of fighting Calzaghe years previously and fought Hakkar

This post is the most deluded yet .
Calzaghe made Hopkins fade with his style and ability.
Calzaghe by far outlanded Hopkins and beat Hopkins down the stretch where he is normally effective, and he did it at Hopkins weight, with 3 American refs, in America. Move on

Just checked the record again. Bernard " i'll never let a white boy beat me" Hopkins still has a L next to his name and Joe has a W. He made Hopkins looks silly and resort to acting. no reason to give a rematch.

Fight doesn't happen because Calzaghe is air-sick. If Kovalev decides to fly to England, Calzaghe can't fight because both his hands are severely injured. Kovalev moves on to other things, Calzaghe moves on to fighting Kebabi Salem.
