Who would win at Light heavy? Both fighters have a fair share of speed on their side, as well as technicality. Zsolt isn't really well known, but he is a good boxer, just sucks that he doesn't step up the competition a bit and maybe get a fight in the USA for a lil more recongnition, like Joe did. Both are undefeated and both have held WBO titles for a long time. Zsolt with 11 names on his belt as Joe with 22. Will Zsolt ever step it up a notch, as Calzaghe did at Super Middle and Light Heavy? Would this fight interest you? Would Zsolt have a chance to beat Joe? Lets say this fight would happen in the USA, who wins? Discuss.
Either wide Calzaghe UD or late Calzaghe TKO. Erdei is just great technically. If not safety first, he's a speedy, powerful boxer with a flying jab. Very good defense also. But his stamina is a big problem and Calzaghe is one hell of an aggressor - for 12 rounds that feel 24 for his opponents. He'd abuse Erdei all the time, also he'd land his quicker jab and a lot of combos. While it could be close in the first few rounds, from the 6th and on, it'd be all Calzaghe. Erdei showed his heart in the Sahnoune fight, so it would be exciting, but I don't see him doing much damage - Calzaghe is the best vs. predictable fighters and while Erdei's speed is as good as Joe's at LHW, he's certainly a well schooled, European-style textbook fighter - therefore a bit predictable... It might sound a bit funny but I've always felt that Erdei could move down to SMW - and logic says he would've been better there - he's an average sized LHW with some fat on even if he weights in like 171... and still very quick... So the SMW division might have missed him, but that over for now. At both weight-class I'd say Joe by UD.
Erdei is a very mediocre champion, he's B- level. Calzaghe would beat him with zero problems, probably knock him out in the second half of the fight. Joe is simply better in every single way and Erdei only knows how to adjust to very basic fighters without a whole lot of talent. He would be dominated on the outside because Calzaghe's much superior boxing skills and roughed up on the inside badly because of Calzaghe's accuracy, workrate, and swarming skills. I would even pick Hopkins to beat Erdei. He's lucky to be a champion and there's a good reason why he has never stepped up.
Joe should use his sway with WBO to get him a title shot prior to fighting Jones Jr. Clean up Zsolt then take Jones Jr out and he's surely got himself legacy.
Calzaghe wide UD Erdei is a solid technical fighter who possesses a good jab and nice straight punches, but it's nothing Calzaghe couldn't handle. Calzaghe could make him fight backing up, using a swarming attack to take Erdei away from his comfort zone. Or he could outbox him from the outside with his southpaw jab and movement being the key.
Can you think of a better southpaw jabber than Joe at being able to beat noted right handers to the jab while staying pretty much unhit by theirs?
Zsolt has shown quite a few very lame performances against very limited opposition within the last couple of years. I for my part would put all my money on Joe. I dont think that Joe would knock him out,but he would probably win a relatively wide point decision against the very likeable Hungarian. I guess if that fight had been staged about 3 years ago Zsolt would have had a decent chance to beat Joe,but at present I cant really see the Hungarian defeat Calzaghe.
