Joe has achieved these nonsense threads because of his victories over a 43 year old Bernard Hopkins, a 39 year old Roy Jones Jr who both floored him despite their age, and the vastly overrated contenders in Mikkel Kessler and Jeff Lacy.

Calzaghe’s legacy is a trashed by many fans because he never stepped up to the plate to fight the top American contenders in America in their prime, as he was happy to fight in Britain for his entire career. Also the fact that Joe took 10 years to unify all the titles in a very poor division.

Robin Reid had very recently lost to an average fighter in Thulani Malinga prior to facing Calzaghe. It took Calzaghe a tremendous effort and a razor-thin split decision to defeat an ordinary boxer like Robin Reid.

Calzaghe was a simply good but not great boxer with a very ordinary career. His only win against a top-level opponent in his prime came against Mikkel Kessler. Jones and Hopkins were both near or over 40 when they faced Calzaghe, and Hopkins was still able to defeat him. Joes own father admitted Hopkins won, even screamed at Joe in the corner “ What are you doing?” “It’s OVER!” “You’ve gotta stop him. You’ve GOT to stop him!” Calzaghe’s zero was the product of good timing, perfect selection of opponents, and a gift decision.
