One of my least favorite fighters of all time. Cant stand the guy. I take nothing away from him as a fighter though. Was obviously very good. I think he loses the Roy and Hopkins fights prime for prime though.
And did they get covered with a white residue from hardening ? Did they harden to the point of possibly "seriously injuring" an opponent should they find themselves inside gloves ? That's what Capetillo admitted at the hearing. "After feeling one of the confiscated pads at the hearing, Margarito admitted that he felt something hard. Capetillo admitted that the confiscated pads violated the applicable rules, and acknowledged that had they been used, they could have seriously injured Margarito's opponent. Both Capetillo and Margarito admitted the pads were hard. At the conclusion of the hearing, all seven commissioners voted unanimously to revoke Margarito's license."
Good. Here's the transcribed event. Feel free to point any errors in it. https://caselaw.findlaw.com/ca-court-of-appeal/1541145.html
His slapping style was quite humorous at times. I think that is why he caught flack. Post fight, Roy said those slaps were a lot harder than he thought they would be. Personally, I think Joe Calzaghe was pretty good fighter as well. SO much energy, unless he did like Ray Leonard at times and got coked out before fighting.
People who hate on Calzaghe or believe Hopkins beat him, are the same people who say Phloyd is GOAT, Ward didn't throw any low blows against Kovalev, Loma is ducking, or Bud is P4P. Completely segmented views here.
I must be all over the map then. No Hate on Cal from me. But he beat Hop-barely. Floyd is up there . Ward threw combos to the nuts. Loma Holding 3 belts at the same time is the definition of house cleaner not ducker. And Yes Bud is P4P#1.
"who believe hopkins beat him." lol 43 year old hopkins, if thats your boast, your baseline isnt high.
Makes me chuckle all those who mock Joe for fighting Jones and Hopkins, they don't realise that Joe was past it and in his mid to late 30's......
