Joe Calzaghe will not destroy Kelly Pavlik should they fight.

Calz might win on points but it would be hard to see him getting a KO. I would not say that Pavlik had no chance either.

I think that CHJ is pulling Kessler tactics with this one :yep

Why would that necessarily be a bad thing?

I mean lets face it. Kelly Pavlik is a bigger scalp at this point than a 42 year old BHop. He's undefeated and he has knocked off every serious challenge at 160lbs. Just 8 lbs south of Calzaghe's career weight. Plus he is 10 years younger. It would be a HUGE feather in Calzaghe's cap if he pulled off the victory.

if this fight happens and calzaghe turns up on form he will win ud by a large margin.
if he shows up not on form and pavlik on form then he might get stopped but there is no way he will ever lose on points.

I think Pavlik handles Abraham easily. I'd love to see the fight. I just am not sure Abraham is gonna get by Miranda this time. Nobody to help him win the fight.

i did not say it was a bad thing. i just offered my opinion why CHJ was saying this when we all know that calzaghe should be the clear favorite to beat pavlik when the fight gets on. but i agree that a pavlik right now is a bigger name than a present hopkins even if pavlik is one division lower than calzaghe.

Well I should probably explain myself a little here. If it gos to the cards then Pavlik wins an easy decision imo. Abraham is not active enough to win a decision against Kelly as I see it. He likes to take chunks of rounds off. But Abraham does have amazing one-punch power. Better than Kellys imo, so he definitely could send Pavlik to the canvas and seriously hurt him. I give Pavlik a 65% chance in this fight to Abrahams 35%

Slaps aren't going to work against Pavlik. Calzaghe is going to have to fight a different style than he's ever fought against a relentless puncher who's willing to trade to land his.

Why does everyone use the "slap" thing against Joe? Did you fail to notice in his fight against Kess (to use an example of a guy with a great chin that is big and sturdy) that an effective jab can take ANYONE out of their gameplan? JC dominated Kessler for at least 2-3 rounds and was ONLY throwing a jab. He has excellent lateral movement and against a guy like Kessler or Pavlik all he needs to do is double up on the jab and move out of range. See rounds 6-8 or so of JC/Kessler and you will know what he's going to do to Pavlik (given Calzaghe isn't shot)

Abraham can punch but only if you stand in punching distance of his hook/uppercut combinations. If Edison Miranda was able to keep Abraham out of that punching range then Kelly Pavlik will too. And he'll likely impale Abraham with that straight right before it reaches the final bell.

I fail to see the similarity between Kessler and Pavlik you do.
