I fail to see the similarity between Lacy and Pavlik you do.

Abraham is on record as saying he knows he will have to be more active here. But can he really change? Does he have the stamina? Will getting hit make him go back to his old ways? We may find out on the 21st....

Great post CHJ. Very objective regarding Calzaghe, and i like your analysis of Pavlik.

Difference is night and day in technique. Lacy never even heard of the word jab or body blow.

He is downplaying Calzaghe big time so as to premtively take credit away from a potential win for Pavlik (By noting that Calzaghe is past his prime) , and at the same time protecting his fanboy feelings if Calzaghe were to lose. Went from overnuthugging to extreme undernuthugging (..?) Either way he still thinks about a Calzaghe when he jerks it at night

Exactly. Pavlik is a better fighter then Lacy. In pretty much every department. If anyone expects a shutout like what happened against Jeff, they better think again. Pavlik is a guy who doesn't look great, but is better then people give credit for. He doesn't load up on his punches, he keeps his shots tidy, he has nice reach, and doesn't totally abandon his defence like some would have your believe. Calzaghe would have the edge in handspeed, but Pavlik i believe can still time Joe. He still apply effective pressure, which is what Kessler did not do enough of. He will be more active than Kessler was also. I see this being a very competitive fight. Pavlik has impressed me more and more, with every fight. He is just a very tough, honest fighter, who breaks guys down. He will be a tough fight for anyone at this point.

I couldn't disagree more. That turtle shell defence will get holes punched through it, against a hard, accurate, straight puncher like Pavlik. Abraham will most likely cop an extensive beating in the latter rounds, although i expect early on it should be reasonably competitive.

I accompanied my son to a basketball try out once. The guy coaching was only there because his son was going to be on the team. He was not the type that would normally be found at this level. He was successful coach with a 'minor league' team locally.

He gave a lesson that I still remember. He showed the kids how the guy with the ball could make the defender work his ass off with only small bits of movement. How to do the small moves and read when the defender committed.

Many times watching Pavlik I think of this coach and that lesson. Kelly does the most with the least. He is always genuinely confused when people think he has a bad defence. He said Lockett hit him once in the first round. Who cares what compubox says?

Most of those who rag on Pavlik are inconsistant Euro snobs....and they rag on him the same reason Mayweather fanboys ragged on Cotto...or anyone else who was deemed a threat. Insecurity. Hence to over arrogant posts as if only THEY are smart. Proof is kessler, getting major props for beating Andrade while Pavlik only beat some bum in Miranda and Taylor. :patsch

I don't have a number, but it is low. It is also irrelavent since he always got back up and went on to win. Just like Pavlik. You really need to look at each knockdown in the context of the fight for it to have any meaning. Too many here try to make too much out of one or another from time to time.

Like when Taylor put Pavlik down with a shot behind the ear. Notice Pavlik did the same to Lockett? Learned and moved on.

CMon now; I said "could give" him trouble. He has the one-punch power to easily drop Pavlik if he connects flush, and unlike Taylor, if he gets Pavlik injured early in a round he will take him out. I give Abraham a 30% chance of knocking out Pavlik

Can't agree with you man even though I'm shocked you're saying this, IF you're serious that is. Calzaghe beats Pavlik by UD and possibly TKOs him late, his power is underrated and they're not just "slaps", those type of punches are taught in the amateurs too, try to tell iron chin Lacy they're slaps.
