I guess you really dont know about the rivalry? Many countries in Britain dont support the others. In an article about Calzaghe fighting Lacy there was a comment about how Lacy will get some support from non Welsh people in Britain.
Calzaghe was an away fighter in a different country when fighting Eubank, Reid and Woodhall

But you forget to note that Calzaghe was happy to travel for Hopkins and Jones and they didnt accept. There was nobody else to challenge for. Calzaghe had to challenge for Veit as his promotor didnt win the purse bids. If Calzaghe hadnt of travelled he would have been stripped, also remember that Calzgahe was meant to meet Echoles in a neutral site on a Tyson undercard but Echoles pulled out. Calzaghe offered to travel for Kessler before the larger site of the Millenium stadium was agreed, which was a good thing seeing as it became an indoor record crowd. When Hopkins and Jones were willing to meet Calzaghe, Calzaghe went up in weight and travelled and won.

Who didnt Calzaghe not fight that was willing to meet him? As said Calzaghe was willing to travel for Hopkins and Jones, they didnt want it and took lesser fights for less money. Dress that any way you like but it speaks better for Calzaghe than it does Jones or Hopkins. Lacy and Kessler get alot of respect for being willing to travel to fight the champ and should have been the ones to travel seeing as Calzaghe was the long reigning fighter with the best resume and pedigree.
I have said before if Calzaghe was American his fights against top 10 rated SMWs Sheika, Manfredo, Brewer, Mitchell and Lacy would have been made into far bigger events as it would have been all American fights and fighters. Consider the silly money and HBO hype for Jones fights against fighters like Frazier and Telesco for example, or even Wards fight with Green who was a lesser fighter than the names I mentioned for Calzaghe

I still haven't seen anything stating that Calzaghe was willing to come and fight Jones, other a few Calzaghe post fight clips, which stand in direct contrast to his stating that he wanted nothing to do with Jones. I specifically never saw anything that said Jones was offered a fight and took a less lucrative one at that. Not saying it didn't happen, but I've seen nothing to sugeest that they have. Educate me on the subject.

Diddo for Echols. I've seen you mention it, but never saw anything on it.

As for who Calzaghe did or did not fight, you know it has long been my contention that, one way or the other, if accomplishment and legacy were his pursuits, he should have left smw behind, and occassionally Europe, and gotten himself into the mix.

Speed, footwork, adaptability are negligable. There is no discernable difference in my opinion. I ad that Calzaghe can only throw punches quickly when he slaps, and Ward can't crack and egg, so they nullify each other in that category. Calzaghe has been down more than Ward has, neither man has been KO'd. How do you know Calzaghe had a better chin?

Ward would beat a prime Calzaghe.

Also Ward beat Kessler easier than Calzaghe did.

Ward has been down less than Calzaghe and also had less fights, not to mention Ward was put down at a lesser level and more hurt.

Also Calzaghe beat Bika easier than Ward, and Bika wasnt an unwell double vision suffering fighter but a fighter that had been beaten before by more people than just Calzaghe

What more do you want to see? You hang on a comment Calzaghe made another time about fighting Jones but here you have heard it directly and then say you havent heard different.
As for Echoles that was the fighter Calzaghe was scheduled to face on the Tyson undercard a fight that was screened to America like the Mitchell fight was. Why if those fights were screened in America does the champ need to travel? The Lacy fight wasnt in America but was streamed to America and that had interest.
Why should Calzaghe have left the SMW division he was out to achieve what he could in his division which he did in winning all of the titles. Calzaghe moved up when Hopkins was willing to face him. You dont same the same thing about Hopkins in the weaker MW division who avoided going up to LHW when Jones was calling him out

The only things I have seen that Calzaghe wanted or was willing to fight Jones was his own words. He also said he didn't want to fight him. So you decide whether to believe one or the other. Who knows what the truth is. But you can't take 1 as gospel and disregard the other. I thought the Echols fight was supposed to be in 05? I'm asking because I genuinely don't know and haven't seen anything on it one way or the other.

Calzaghe said he wanted the crown jewels to fight Jones, not didnt want to fight him. Hopkins wanted 6 mil to fight Calzaghe and J Taylor and Jones Jnr both wanted 10 mil ie they ALL wanted the crown jewels for big risks
