calzaghe could of fought the likes of bhop and rjj a lot sooner and said look, ive fought and beat the best in their primes, but he fought them when they were way from prime, ok joe wasnt prime then either.........calzaghe can hardly say i fought them all in their prime and won....

mayweather, if he fights pacman, not saying he will but it can theoretically still happen, then you cant have any question about floyd cos hes faught them all and beat them all......still gotta get that done though!

imagine if rjj never went up to hw, then after that coming back down and losing something like 60 odd pounds of muscle, imagine if he never went up and down in that quick a time he would have been a much stronger fighter still and dominated for a good few years more imo.

If Ricky didnt take on prime Floyd and Pac would we be here talking about how great Ricky is?

    He would be what 45-0?

    Castillo
    Malangigi
    Tszyu
    Urango
    Collazo

Would we be saying oh ricky is an all time great...yadda yadda yadda.

Joe never took one a prime all time great....his Hopkins victory was by 1 round on my scorecard...bernad wanted a rematch....

What my point is tho, while Hopkins wasnt in his prime, neither was Calzaghe. We can hardly blame him for the RJJ fight not happening earlier as he was jumping weights every other fight.

As far as the Hatton resume goes, it cant be compared to Calazghe's IMO as he pretty much took on the best (excluding RJJ). His wins over Hopkins and Kessler (given what he was gone on to achieve) are probably better than all of Hatton's wins (we have to take Zoo at what it was IMO)

Rnd 1 - 10-8 Hopkins (controlled the pace of the fight and scored a knockdown for a 10-8 round)
Rnd 2 - 10-9 Hopkins (caught Calzaghe coming in several times where Calzaghe hardly landed any shots. Hopkins holding a lot though)
Rnd 3 - 9-10 Calzaghe (closed distance better and didnt get caught much. plenty of clinches nearly all down to Hopkins)
Rnd 4 - 10-9 Hopkins (Hopkins lands the better inside shots but Calzaghe pushs the pace. Could go either way)
Rnd 5 - 9-10 Calzaghe (poor round but Calzaghe did the better work and was the more active boxer)
Rnd 6 - 10-9 Hopkins (dull round but Hopkins landed the better shots even though it was only one at a time and was dirty)
Rnd 7 - 9-10 Calzaghe (could have gone either way again but Calzaghe forced the fight and landed more)
Rnd 8 - 10-9 Hopkins (Calzaghe pushed Hopkins back for the whole 3 minutes but Hopkins landed the better exchanges)
Rnd 9 - 9-10 Calzaghe (once again outworks Hopkins and forces him back the entire round. lands a few decent punches too)
Rnd 10 - 10-9 Hopkins (roughed up Calzaghe inside and landed the better shots in close. Calzaghe again forced the pace)
Rnd 11 - 9-10 Calzaghe (outworking Hopkins who isn't able to counter with much)
Rnd 12 - 9-10 Calzaghe (much like the fight Calzaghe pushed the pace but didn't get countered with much)

    Total - 114-113 Hopkins (6 rounds each)

    45-1 = not so great

Will people stop saying Floyd is 'technically better'.

There's no right or wrong way to fight, it's all about effectiveness. And whilst Joes style wasn't the most refined or aesthetically pleasing, it was very effective.

I think he is. But not because of how intricate his skillset is. I think people just don't realise how awkward a style Joe possessed, it was a nightmare, and as 1 in a 1000 as Floyds blend of skills.

Surely to be trolling I would need to be making some outlandish comment hoping to get a reaction, or "bite", from one of my fellow posters? I don't think anything I've said regarding Calzaghe is outlandish in the slightest.

Also, I'm of the opinion that Hopkins was done at the weight when fighting Taylor so Taylor's wins don't mean as much as Joe's win over Hopkins - this being further backed up by what Hopkins has gone on to acheive at the weight.

Finally, to say that Calzaghe's resume :)-() is "nowhere near as strong" is selling Calzaghe very short indeed, although I agree that neither man's slate is particularly impressive.

Yep, arguing over who has the best ring record over two blokes with shoddy ledgers does seem like a waste of time really.

We should really argue over something else....

Right, who has the best chin - Wlad Klistchko or Amir Khan?

If you honestly think that fight 'really' was a SD, you need your head checking. That fight had Floyd UD all over it, shocking scoring.

It's not 'shocking scoring' at all.

    -Low workrate
    -Slow start

Only swings in Floyds favour when he takes away/Oscar abandons the jab.
