Joe Calzaghe's defense is not good enough to beat a prime Jones/Hopkins or a Toney

No one will ever know how good Joe Calzaghe really was. He really was amazing at what he did. Compare the ass beaing Calzaghe gave washedup Roy with the rematch between Hopkins and Roy.... I think Calzaghe is > than Hopkins. I also think that Calzaghe would have given a prime roy jones a harder fight than Hopkins/Toney gave Roy.

You are ****ing mad. GO get a Toney career set and realize that he could clip chins and put people to sleep quite badly. Calzaghe's chin wasn't the best, and Toney is as cunning as they come. YES Calzaghe could smother Toney and outwork him, but I'd garauntee Toney would land right hands more often and more powerfully than powderpuff puncher Hopkins could.

Even in his prime Toney was very flat footed. I think he might be a bit too static to win a decision over Calzaghe.

If 5ft 7 midget bum Griffin beat Toney twice, and a washed up Nunn outboxed Toney till his fluke KO, add to that all the gifts Toney got, throw in the fact he was a drugs cheat, safe to say prime Joe( who I proved recently punches harder than Froch, Holyfield etc) would kill Toney.

Joe was shot to pieces when he beat up Hop, a prime Joe has power too.

Prime Jones jr lights up Joe.The reason Joe looked amazing against this version of Jones is the same reason Trinidad won the 1st 3 rds against this version of Jones his legs were gone .What made Jones such a monster was his foot work ..Joe would have not been able to keep up with a young Jones by any strectch ..Look at the problems Kessler and Reid gave him ..Lets also not forget he didn't out box Bika like he would have out worked Toney ..Its rediculous to say Joe out works anyon in their prime when he barely out worked Hopkins at 43 ! Stop living in a fantasy world Joe was a great super middle but he had limitations !

Prime Jones and prime Hop were already killed by shot Joe.

Why do you think they ducked him for 10+years!

Hopkins did one of teh most sickening ducks since Bowe throw away the belts than fight Lewis, or since Tyson paid 4million to Lewis not to fight!

They tried cherry picking him when he was shot, over 24rounds, Hop and RJJ won 4 combined against a blown up sme shot, old brittle handed Calzaghe.

In his prime, he Ko's both of them.

    spot on.

jones is also an offensive fighter. fighters without a solid defence never have longevity once the speed leaves them.

******, RJJ is a pot shotter, counter puncher who couldn't live with offensively boxers like Benn, Collins,Eubank,DM and Calzaghe.

Calzaghe is an offensive fighter, you basically confirmed Joe Calzaghe was shot to pieces in your own words.:lol::patsch

But Toney also had some really poor performances. No way Calzaghe needs a gift decision against Tiberi or loses to Thadzi. Calzaghe was only knocked down because he could get off balance easily but he was always up by the count of two and went back to pummeling the opponent.

The OP's argument that Calzaghe's defence isn't good enough to beat a prime RJJ seems silly, nobody beats a prime RJJ at 168. I do give Calzaghe a good chance against a prime Hopkins and Toney though.

I hope you mean nobody as in '' he wouldn't take a real fight'' and not ''nobody could'' I mean we all saw Griffin outbox RJJ until RJJ illegal cheap shot ruined Griffin.

UFC fan, knows **** all about boxing.

Green Calzaghe smashed prime Eubank, Benn was retired and the others all ducked him till they thought he was shot, then shot Calzaghe smashed them.

Calzaghe's chin was pretty formidable TBF, He gets hit by more punches than guys like Hopkins and Toney which might have gave the impression it wasnt as good as those guys mentioned before. IMO Calzaghes chin was on that level:good
