Joe Calzaghe's defense is not good enough to beat a prime Jones/Hopkins or a Toney

The funny thing is, if Calzaghe had of lost to Hopkins they would have said I respect him for coming over to America and trying against the best, but he WON.
Then all these muppets say Hopkins was shot, but if they think that why do they then say Calzaghe didnt fight him again . Their American legend could have had another loss then.
The fool who started this thread dosent realise Toney was fighting at CW before Joe even won his first SMW title.
Think I might watch Calzaghe vs Jones tonight or watch him when he beat up Hopkins. Great American debut

as arguably the most respected boxing historian on the planet today, i have seen many world class boxers come and go but i have never . . . . . . . . i repeat NEVER, seen a fighter with that kind of dazzling handspeed :shock::shock::shock::shock:

that is a truely remarkable piece of video footage

    Word.

Both Calzaghe and Jones have similar defenses, mostly relying on their speed and reflexes. Calzaghe was slower in his prime but had a good enough chin to get away with it.

Ironically i think the one with the best D out of all 3 during their prime is Toney by a large margin. Pretty legit counterpuncher.

wow people talking about the Joe from his last 6 fights like that was a prime Joe. crazy but hey i guess these young urban american fans need to reach for something. seeing this superior white athelet beat and whoop these ledgends while not in his prime they have to come up with an excuse and say oh well that was a prime joe who beat up jones and out worked hopkins. WRONG!!! that was not a prime Joe. Deal with it he's an excellent talent like PBF, Calderon And Ward. he's a Winner and most people (average) hate winners. Look at all the Hate Roy got in his prime. how many wanted to see him get Ko'd ? then look at Gatti who was not a winner but an average at best a B- fighter.

I disagree with the idea that people hate winners. I think people hate those they find to be disingenuous. Guys like Calzaghe, and even PBF get shat on because despite all the chest thumping and cheap talk, are guys who appear to have taken the safest available avenues, then tried to dress it up as otherwise.

I will say this..... Calzaghe may not have been physically prime when he fought RJJ and Hopkins, but he was far closer to it than either of them. He wasn't 43 years old, nor was he 40 years old having been KO'd multiple times in previous years. Just saying.

If Joe was not at his prime he was at his fighting peak ! Still he was nowhere the level of Jones at that point and Hopkins well he beat the best available Hopkins out .Jones was out worked by Hopkins ,Johsnon and Tarver in his last losses as well as Danny Green all of whom a young Jones barely loses too .Age isn't always the determing factor as to what makes you shot !
