A nice insightful post wholly accurate apart from the "showed he knew more than most" bit. Calzaghe is in no way near Ali except on that wall. His 46-0 is more like swen ottke 34-0 or even terry marsh 26-0-1....rather than marciano 49-0 or floyd 50-0 He did nothing exceptional for 10 years...than in the last 2 years pastes a hype job ...beats a european champion level guy...outpoints a totally shot jones jnr...and gets a gift over hopkins. What no one talks, about is how old man hopkins exposed calzaghes kryptonite in that fight.....to neutralise joes game of slapping flurries simply tie up lock one arm...hopkins did that to win the first six rounds....those kind of short flurries require both hands for leverage and torque.
Joe Calzaghe the MBE coke head who breaks his hands on bouncers heads in Cardiff? It's only a sport/hobby, and material possessions go to dust.
I missed a lot of his earlier public appearances and to be honest, I never rated him too highly but he kept winning and to me he seemed to have tremendous self belief. I know all great fighters 'appear' super confident that they will win everytime they enter ring but with Calzaghe, to me he seemed more certain than most.
Joe was bullied and hates bullies, a lot of bouncers tend to be bullies. Can you imagine these ogre types when they're close to an undefeated 2 weight World Champion? Wanting a story to tell, well Joe gave them a story, I have absolutely no problem with him beating up bullies.

hahaha never seen that before !! That was hard to watch reminded me of when Joe Hart was in the studio for the Manchester derby a while back when he was sat there looking like someone has told him he can’t move an inch !
