I think we can all agree that he was a really great fighter and a top, top talent. But he was let down by his brittle hands and the fact that he never travelled to America sooner!
I was thinking the same thing..Plus how big were those pads they look like they are supposed to be for catching kicks ..
His dad meets him with the pads, what sort of training is that? he should be trying to make Joe get his feet into position before letting the punches go, he should be getting Joe to get full extension on his shots so he can develop his sense of distance, not that Joe needs that at that stage, as he already had a great sense of time and distance by then, but if your trying to develop a fighter, doesn't seem like the best way to train him, is it any wonder Joe doesn't turn his knuckles in when he throws hooks? Devon Alexander's trainer is even worse imo, he doesn't even make Devon extend at all, which is probably why he pulls a lot of his shots, why when Devon uses his speed, he gets tight after throwing the punch (when he brings his hands home)
Those names are not unanswered questions. Prime Hopkins and RJJ you can say are unaswered questions, but the names you mention are in a league below and wouldn't have added anything to his career. Plus even if he fought them and won the US fans would have been "Dawson hype job that lacks heart, Froch "B" level fighter etc etc.
obviously prime RJJ and Hopkins would have answered questions. But since they didnt fight in their primes it would have at least been comforting for him to fight the current prime top fighters at 168 and 175. Like i said too many unanswered questions even though i found him to be an interesting fighter despite his awkward style.
If Hatton were trained in the USA by a good trainer, he'd have been an olympic level boxer like Floyd. Physically he had all the tools Floyd had, he just never learned to move his head.
calzaghes a good fighter , awkward and clever at the same time. I could do without the slapping but other than that he's great.
