The 6th best British fighter ever is a great accolade, but it does not equate to all the horrible dog**** that gets written on here - best ever p4p, best fighter of the lasy 25 years, would've beaten any version of Hopkins, blah blah blah.

Keep winding, if I didn't enjoy it I wouldn't do it. He is spectacularly overrated, I like to be there to balance the debate. I'm perfectly happy with the situation, if you aren't, don't comment on it. :good

Wow this thread has grown since I last took part. It really seems that calzaghe polarises opinion between posters here. So many people love him and won't accept criticism against him and plenty criticise him relentlessly. Moderates are few and far between.

Calzaghe's punching in the Hopkins fight was horrific to watch imo, but his blend between points scoring and power shots (WITHOUT SLAPPING) against Kessler was beautifully done.

Calzaghe does not fight one way. I dislike his slapping, but he doesn't always do it.

  4. His punches can only be described as "slappy"

    • I rate the guy in my top 25 fighters of the past 25 years. He is top 15.
    • I have him 6th best British fighter in history. He is top 3. Lewis is one of the other in top 3.
    • I have him 1st best supermiddleweight ever in terms of achievement. He is of course and this is absolutely indisputable.
    • 3rd best h2h. He is 1 or 2 H2H.

So in fact you rate him lowly. You probably do so because you really dislike the fella.

I think Pac is one of the best Pinoy fighters of the last 3 years. I think he is one of the 10 best in his weight class over the last 10 years. I think he has a nice moustache. See how highly I rate Pac? Or rather .. see how good things are not very good, when put into context?

All I can do is give my opinion. Whether you agree with me or not, I don't see how rating someone 6th best British fighter (ahead of Eubank, Benn, Hamed, McGuigan, Conteh, Honeyghan, etc) can equal dislike, nor can saying I think he is 3rd best at 168 h2h (again, because that means I place him ahead of Collins, Eubank, Benn, Ottke, Kessler, McClennan, etc) equal dislike - because I really like Eubank and Benn, and others. If I was basing my decision on likes/dislikes, then I wouldn't have Joe above them as I am not a fan of Joe but I am a fan of those two.

Not rating someone quite as highly as you does not equal bias or mean the decision is based on dislike. This is so childish I can't even believe I'm explaining it.

You clearly don't know much about British boxing chum. Sorry, but if you think Joe Cal and Lennox are 2 of the top 3, you don't know your history.

Who is the other one then: BOB FITZSIMMONS, TED 'KID' LEWIS, JIMMY WILDE or KEN BUCHANAN????

Cos if it had of been in america manfredo would have won???
If the hopkins fight was anywhere but the USA then it would have been scored a JC victory by a muchly deserved wider margin!!
