Joe Calzaghe's Victory over Hopkins is an ATG win

Nazim was there cause hopkins want him there even though nazim couldnt talk right. Like i said roach was hopkin's new trainer.

He was the trainer in the fight, but all 3 played their part going up to the fight.

I still don't think it would have made a difference, at all.

Calzaghe was too good that fight. Hopkins faked an injury to constantly rest. He was cheating and still lost

 

43 year-old fighters like to rest in the ring and Joe wouldn't let him. I'm not sure that equates to being "too good", but the fight was too boring for me to even care.

 

I think it made a difference. Roach didnt know what to say to hopkins. Roach was hopkins trainer when hopkins fought an out of shape middleweight wright and that fight was very close. Nazim if he was hopkins head trainer and can talk right? I think hopkins with the right stratagy would have beat calzaghe imo.

 

Joe shouldve stayed on

he couldve become the recognisded no 1 light heavy if he did- like Bhop did later

 

You've made some very good points here Serge.

However, there's a few things to consider.

1. The weight wasn't an issue at all. He was confident in moving up to 175, and he thought his speed would be a huge advantage over everyone. In 2004 he said he knew he had to move up. His last 4 years at 168 were hell, and he had to kill himself in the welsh mountains and starve himself to make weight for Manfredo and Kessler. His two 175 camps were great, because he ate a lot better and didn't have to lose as much weight. He felt stronger. So even though Hop was his first fight at 175, it wasn't a big deal.

2. It was his first fight in America, so it was a situation that he wasn't used to, but that was all of his own doing. He could have fought in America a lot sooner than he did.

3. Any fighter that fights pro or amateur deserves a huge amount of respect. However, Joe certainly didn't have balls of steel. I also thought that he came across as being very arrogant.

Hopkins retired Calzaghe into a Draw, Calzaghe still has nightmares from the frustrating fight with Hopkins, so much that his next opponent had to be shot to **** Roy Jones.

 

Landing on the arms and shoulders aren't scoring shots.

I agree 100%. Hopkins has proved he had plenty left when he fought Joe with some brilliant wins afterwards. What a lot of people don't realise is that calzaghe was WELL past HIS prime too when he beat Hopkins and to do it so easily makes it an ATG win
