at the time Woodhall had only lost to Keith Holmes, and Markus Beyer, and was tipped to give Joe trouble, now I know Richie well and have spoken to him about the fight.

during his training he was suffering back trouble, he went through with it cause he was getting close to a million ( not sure how true that bit is) anyway after the fight, he was checked out and had a stress fracture of the spine, I asked him if they had fought with Richie 100 per cent and he said he "might have gone the 12" he rated Calzaghe highly.

they are good pals, and the friday after the weigh in Richie, Lennie, Joe, Enzo and their camps had a meal together, and as Clazaghe was about to eat some ice cream from his spoon, Woodhall spotted a shard of glass in it and managed to stop Calzaghe from eating it.

Most of his defences werent poor. Sure some were. When you have a fighter who had 22 SMW title fights they are bound to have some gimmes, but dont forget that Branco, Pudwill and McIntyre were subs for Salmaci, Tate and Echoles. Now...
If you work out how many fighters were top 10 rated and how many became top 10 rated after Calzaghe beat them he fought 22 SMW title fights and 15 were or became top 10 rated. I havent included Ferreyra who had been top 10 rated before fighting Calzaghe

Thats very good but even better when you note Calzaghes LHW career, because as a career total it becomes

    He fought

fighters who were rated when he fought them. Reid, Sheika, Woodhall, Veit2, Brewer, Mitchell, Ashira, Manfredo, Lacy, Kessler, Jones, Hopkins, Bika. Eubank got rated for his loss so could be included to make

Before Calzaghe fought Lacy his world title fights were not poor at all, just Lacy was a marquee name. Eubank, Reid, Woodhall, Brewer, Mitchell were all very good SMWs and had been world champs in the division

:patsch Whos the best fighter Froch has fought? Kessler coming off a loss, who Calzaghe beat when undefeated .
I like Froch but dont be so delusional
Pascal did nothing at SMW and beat nobody
Taylor was 1-2 in his last 3 fights
Dirrell hadnt done a thing and still hasnt beaten a top SMW
Abraham coming off a loss and not able to compete at SMW
Johnson who has a terrible SMW resume and was 0-5 in his last 5 world title fights and has done nothing at SMW
None of those compare at SMW to say Mitchell, Reid, Woodhall, Lacy, Kessler ets who were all SMW world champs at some point with far superior SMW resumes

Calzaghe never lost, Toney got beat by far inferior fighters and looked lucky against Tiberi, couldnt beat S Williams at first ask and lost to Thadzi .

    Get it right :patsch.
Hopkins backed out of fighting Calzaghe. Fact
Jones wasnt interested but think about this. Jones was at HW before Calzaghe had even fought B Mitchell
Pavlik :patsch was a MW when Calzaghe was a LHW
Toney was a CW before Calzaghe had even won his first SMW world title
G Johnson blew his chance more than once. Johnson was never once a top 10 rated SMW when Calzaghe was champ. Calzaghe had to fight the winner of Sheika/Johnson and Sheika won. Calzaghe said he would fight Johnson if Johnson beat Woods in their 3rd fight and Johnson lost
Tarver :patsch, Calzaghe beat the fighter that beat Tarver easily

You really think Calzaghe lost to Reid .
Ask yourself this. How could you not score rounds 2, 3, 4,7, 8 (

), 12 to Calzaghe? Remember Reid had a point deducted also.

I thought like 2 judges that Calzaghe was a clear winner and except for McCrory who scored a draw and later seemed to agree all of the other studio guest scored wide for Calzaghe including Mcguigan and Eubank. I also think damaged handed (damaged his hand in round 4) Calzaghe won and felt he won rounds 1, 9 (Reid did land the punch of the night in round 9 though) & 11.

    Good away win for Calzaghe

You're mixing up two stories there fella. They did bump into each other in the services and Enzo called Len and Ritchie over to sit with them and Joe was like WTF?

It was a different fight with the glass in the ice cream though.

    Yeah, it was.

And nobody spotted it, he felt the glass in his mouth.

Nah, Grant. He never put it in his mouth. Woodhall saw it first and alerted him.

''Losing those six pounds in such a short space of time was way too much, especially when I was tight at the weight in any case. My face was drawn and I felt horrible so I went back to my hotel to get some food and liquid into me as quickly as I could. Wehn we sat down in the restaurant I was so dehydrated that I had no appetite and couldnt eat but I was incredibly thirsty so I decided to have an ice cream. All of a sudden I felt something hard in my mouth which Ithought was ice at first but it was razor sharp so I spat it out what turned out to be a piece of glass. I then discovered there were bits of shredded glass all the way through the ice cream. So what do I think immediately? Conspiracy, thats what I think for there was never any love lost between me and Reid.''

I havent read this thread, but we all know that its only Ricky Burns who has ever had 'easy' WBO defences, & thats that.

Is that from his book, Grant? I remember his camp saying thankfully he never had the chance to eat the ice-cream at the time.

    I stand corrected though.
