I scored that fight a draw, and in truth it was a bad ugly fight. He deserves credit for going the distance and somewhat neutralizing Hopkins' offensive rhythm though, and BHop's future success augments it a bit, but all in all it's not adding too much.

I thought Joe came on well and won the B-Hop fight pretty clearly and I never seen B-hop fight so cheap faking a fouls a few times to gain rest...Joe adapted well to win clearly IMO...

B-Hop went on to prove he was far from shot in fact I was never impressed with him at 160lbs, I thought he was better than ordinary but not great but has since proven at 175lbs with wins over Tarver,Pavlik,Jones and Pascal that he is strong at 175 lb .

Calzage impressed me vs Lacy, Kessler,Jones and Hopkins

Bernard is hard to look good against but Joe fought a perfect fight and remember Joe was 37 years of age so he was also no spring chicken

I had Hopkins winning 8-4, and actually thought he had more trouble with Jermaine Taylor than Calzaghe.

terrible joke scoring how could you have Hopkins winning rounds 7, 9 or 11?

    Calzaghe clearly beat Hopkins

. I understand that Hopkins is an American legend that people want to see as an iconic figure. America love a reformist and Hopkins as a former armed robber turned world champ is just the story that wins Americas hearts but...

    This content is protected

    1. Calzaghe landed more than 100 punches than Hopkins throughout the fight.
    2. Contrary to what people want to believe, Calzaghe also made Hopkins miss more
    3. All round punch percentages, Calzaghe finished ahead of Hopkins
    4. Calzaghe outlanded Hopkins in every round
    5. A Byrd who scored for Hopkins it appears has a history for bad scorecards. Type in Adalaide Byrd in Google and see what comes up for yourself, still here are some little things for you to look at
    a. A Byrd was the only judge out of the 3 scoring judges that had Mack ahead against Cloud
    b. The K Pavlik - A Lopez fight was scored 98-92, 99-91 by the other 2 judges, A Byrd scored it 95-95
    c. A Byrd was one of the judges that had Morales a 4 point loser against Maidana
    d. In the S Aydin vs S Ouali fight, the other 2 judges scored clearly for Aydin. Byrd scored for Ouali
    e. The J Almaraz/C Tyler fight was scored a Maj-Dec all because of one judge, guess which? A Byrd
    f. The A DeMarco/J Reyes fight was a SD. Guess who the odd judge out was? A Byrd.
    g. The R Torres - M Arnaoutis fight was a close fight, a point either way to 2 judges but a wide result scored by Byrd
    h. In the A Pryor Jr/D Stanislavjevic SD, guess who the odd judge out was? You guessed it... A Byrd
    i. The W Ferguson/J Lopez SD, guess who the odd judge out was? You guessed it... A Byrd

I think thats enough for you to get the picture with Byrd. Remember the other 2 judges scored clearly for Calzaghe

    6. Calzaghe beat Hopkins in America, at a new weight with 3 American judges and Cortez as ref.
    7. Calzaghe scored the single highest score card against Hopkins ever 116-111.
    8. The 2 judges that scored for Calzaghe agreed on 9 of the rounds
    9. Calzaghe landed more on Hopkins than anyone ever.

Now I know there will be a flood of people coming on here noting Hopkins scoring a flash KD in the first round, and I agree that Hopkins did win a few rounds even when he didnt land as often, but people are mad if they think Calzaghe won on workrate, Calzaghe won because he was able to land his left more often than Hopkins could land his right.
Calzaghe finished the stronger and took away the moments Hopkins likes down the stretch.
Other thoughts, If Hopkins thought he was winning, do you think he would have been looking for time out and would bother trying to get points deducted off of Calzaghe, of course he wouldnt, Hopkins knew he was losing.

What I do note is that nobody seems to mind Hopkins lost to Taylor. In the first Hopkins/Taylor fight, Jermaine was badly hurt and Hopkins looked the stronger at the end, yet it seems to upset alot of these people that Calzaghe beat Hopkins. Appears very biased.

Remember at the time that people were calling for Hopkins to retire because of how Calzaghe was bullying Hopkins around. If Hopkins had of retired hardly anybody would say they think Hopkins won and would say Calzaghe beat a shot Hopkins, because Hopkins has gone on to have success, some fools try and rewrite history

Yep Calzaghes bets win was against an old man. And a split decision at that. Most people think he lost the fight.

    Sums up Calzaghe

Imagine Tyson getting a split decision against Spinks
or Ali getting a split decision against Foreman

    Calzaghe sucks

Wow that generic response by bailey really meant nothing. Not only does he fail to reason against my scoring but he also fails to note how I do infact score hopkins-taylor 1 in favour of hopkins.

The 3 rounds causing you issue are 7, 9 and 11. I'd love to read your analysis on those 3 rounds.

Try not to besmirch the classic forum with your usual antics and actually debate the issue at hand rather than give a generic response.

Horrific posts like this are the exact reason that bailey's facts need repeatedly spelling out.

Byrd is one of the worst and Eugenia Williams is up there with her but Byrd is either corrupt or blind. i also agree Joe One the fight pretty clearly and a lot of what you say is true

this joke bailey has found his way to the classic forum. i say we start a petition to get this clown banned. he's posted this same exact post over and over again. dude, get over it. it was a close fight. joe won but some thought that the fight was even or bhop won. i even had joe winning a close fight but all your "facts" hardly dispel that the fight was close.

Manny Steward, and even homer Kellerman, both agreed the fight was "easy to score" with the winner being Calzaghe. They were ringside and each knows the sport, I would dare say, fairly well. Why this decision continues to be labelled by some as debatable completely escapes me.

Harold Letterman had it 9-3 Calzage or 116-111 Calzage and Harold said it was an easy fight to score. Manny called Bernard s fake foul antics and way of getting rest and despite the instant replay of a rub not a punch, B-hop STILL TOOK 5 minutes to rest and did it 2 more times.....The only idiot that thought Hopkins won was the inept Judge Adelaide Byrd and she only see in Black and white but the white don't count.

That does not matter though. We all know the fight wasn't "easy" to score. Letterman, Steward etc... scored the fight LIVE on fight night. WE have seen the fight many, many times since so we know better than what they did on fight night.

Maybe it's because nearly half the people who have seen it feel Hopkins won.

    Just a thought.
