    Calzaghe never ducked Johnson.

    to fight Calzaghe.
Now Calzaghe did pull out of fighting Johnson due to injuries, but there are many things missed here, like Calzaghe pulled out 3 times before fighting Sheika, pulled out before fighting Jones when they fought and pulled out before fighting Lacy. Calzaghe had bad hand troubles.
    But
Calzaghe had to fight the winner of the Johnson/Sheika fight and Sheika beat Johnson.
Calzaghe agreed to fight Johnson if Johnson beat Woods in their 3rd fight, and guess what? Johnson lost again. Calzaghe was even ringside to promote the fight, but Johnson lost.

They would have fought in 2004 if Johnson had waited instead of fighting Jones.

. Yet he came running back to Calzaghe when Joe became a superstar after whooping Lacy.

    BBC Tuesday, 8 June, 2004

But Johnson is adamant Calzaghe has lost his chance, saying: "The fight is off. I'm not interested in fighting Joe Calzaghe any more.

. Calzaghe was ringside for this fight - some scared ducker hey. Why do people leave out this information when discussing this issue?

and I have a hard time believing Calzaghe would duck an old journeyman like Johnson to fight a younger, much more dangerous Mikkel Kessler!!! and yes Calzaghe WAS injury prone. he was notorious for hand problems.....Many of his fights including Lacy had to be rescheduled. He still ended up fighting them. He wanted to reschedule the Johnson fight but like i said Johnson said he was "done" with Calzaghe.

everybody was beating johnson before he popped up on the hbo screen and knockout that over hyped HBO fighter jones jr

Bad style match up for Calzaghe against someone who would not add to his record.

That stat really does illustrate the quality of Calzaghe's super-middleweight era.

Johnson was world class at 160 and 175 but he was passed around like a journeyman at 168.

    Very true.
He was never good enough to be rated when Calzaghe was champ, yet was a Ring mag top 10 fighter when past his best, for beating A Green coming off a loss. That shows how weak todays era is.
A good example of this is how Froch had to beat old past best, boiled down G Johnson to challenge Ward, and that was considered a top SMW pairing.
Yet years previously Sheika had to beat prime fresh G Johnson in order to get to challenge Calzaghe.
That shows how far the division has dipped and to think Froch only won by Mdec

Well given that he had an excellent chin and even higher work rate than Glen, I'm going to say neither...and it wasn't a duck. :?

It's possible to duck fighters below you, as was the case with Calzaghe and Johnson. Joe's own promoter admits Calzaghe was rarely motivated and was always looking for ways to get out of fights while still chasing down mando bums the main issue with Calzaghe and Johnson was that Joe managed to duck Johnson not once not twice but thrice surely anyone looking at the record could see something was off here.

Did Calzaghe duck Sheika who beat Johnson when he pulled out 3 times with injuries
Johnson backed out and couldnt win the eliminators.
Still if you think Calzaghe ducked a then 4-6-0 SMW resume, then you are more daft than I first thought :yep
    Arcane gets himself pwned again

Joe's own promoter who was bitter that Calzaghe had ditched him and taken £1.8million off him in a court case, the very same promoter who is generally regarded as a rival to Don King as one of boxing most untrustworthy scumbags.

Ok boss have a look at this article

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/2992148.stm

Now in the article team Ottke accuse no show Joe and his camp of ducking them, what we've always heard from Joe's promoter is that it was Ottke who wanted no part of Calzaghe but this account differs and says it was indeed Joe and his camp who were terrified of Ottke hence prefered the mando bums instead of the big unification fight the division needed. Now if it is true (which it looks it is) that Calzaghe did indeed duck Ottke then we can say it's consistent with what his former promoter had to say about him.

Great post, it's clear that Glen was all wrong for Joe. Calzaghe mentally had problems with opponents with high workrate that's why the phantom hand injury was a great weapon to use and use it he did.

And, to counter, the Calzaghe camp accuse Ottke of ducking him and even refusing a big-money fight in a neutral venue.

Now, do we know for certain what terms were offered and who turned what down or are we just relying on the words of the individual camps? Because if we're relying on the words of the untrustworthy scumbag W arren or Ottke's camp - who, considering the history of robberies involving Ottke, only a fool would trust - we're not going to get the full picture of anything.

Sauerland, W arren, Ottke and Calzaghe have all proven themselves dishonest and, in some cases, habitual liars, so presenting anything any of them said as if it were the gospel truth is a ludicrous position to take.

But if you want to blindly trust the word of proven habitual liars just to promote your own biased agenda then that's your problem.

"I'm not chasing after Roy Jones. Be honest, Roy Jones is a good fighter and I don't want tough fights, I just want big money."

from 1998, JC called out roy in 02, perfect time - both in prime. JC faced Sheika right after he beat johnson

It is well known JC had hand problems, stop making it out as he used it as an excuse. I often wonder are any of these agenda pushing ***gots actually boxing fans.
