How could the fight happen if Johnson loses four fights in a row on one occaison, loses to Woods on another when the fight was pretty much signed and in yet another occaison refuses to re-arange a fight with Calzaghe - publically stating he was through with Calzaghe and didn't want to fight him anymore - so he could fight Roy Jones Jr instead?

You want to believe that Calzaghe didn't want to fight him and was making up injuries to avoid it then go ahead, but at least accept that three of the occaisons where the fight could have happened it was Johnson who was responsible for it not happening.

Johnson was always average at best.He gave you trouble if you were shot or not very good.

Great guy to root for but c'mon he was in competitive fights with clinton woods

That is an interesting article Howard Eastman was a tough fighter and I am surprised Calzaghe even thought about a Eastman fight since he didn't want tough fights, however looking at the article date I just noticed Calzaghe was full of **** as per usual:-

Joe Calzaghe's interest in Howard Eastman came after beating Tocker Pudwill. You know something is fishy look at the gap in toughness between Pudwill and Eastman.

Then Calzaghe goes on to go life and death with Byron Mitchell. Seeing that Calzaghe had a real tough time with Mitchell, he takes on Mger Mkrtchyan in his following bout followed by Kabery Salem and not so tough rematch with Veit.

During this period of time, you can see Calzaghe did really live up to his word when he said he does not want tough fights so I think you are right Calzaghe probably didn't want a fight with Howard Eastman knowing it be tougher than his usual.

You know, I just went to that YouTube video where I told him to leave me alone and I've discovered that he still refused to do it. He responded two more times with cheap cut-and-paste jobs that completely ignored what I said! I put him on my ignore list so I didn't get a message saying he responded. Luckilly someone marked them as spam. Makes you wonder how someone could be so pathetic as to waste their life like that :-(

Great post, I think when Joe sat down and had a think about it he knew he didn't want to work for 12 rounds against a tough opponent hence chose to avoid the Battersea Bomber. What's funny about the whole Eastman duckjob is that Calzaghe fans often cite Eastman as a name on Bernard Hopkins resume to belittle yet this is the same Howard Eastman who Joe considered fighting yet ducked.

Johnson was a bum and couldn't stop losing hence Joe did not fight him, he had nothing to gain. Unfortunately Calzaghe got injured the only realistic time the fight was going to happen.

I think Johnson would pose as many problems to Joe as the mid 40's Hopkins, who posed plenty, that one could have gone either way.

Or maybe it could have been his loss to Omar Sheika?

I'm not saying Johnson is/was a bad boxer, what I am saying is that as other posters have rightly proven is he had an abysmal record at 168.

And now to make matters worse apparently Calzaghe ducked Howard Eastman, who whilst a good fighter was never anything special and he would have struggled at 168 imo.

The trolls will now go into Communist style propaganda mode to make Eastman the baddest mother****er on the planet.........hence Calzaghe ducked him.

probably the fact that Calzaghe destroyed, and I mean destroyed, Omar Sheika after Sheika had just beaten Johnson

seriously, why the **** would Calzaghe be afraid of a serial loser?
