"On 13 June 1997, he defeated Virgil Hill over 12 rounds to add Hill's Lineal, WBA, & IBF titles to his own. However, Michalczewski soon lost both alphabet titles. The WBA stripped him for displaying its belt along with that of the WBO, an organization it didn't recognize. The IBF did so a few weeks later, when Michalczewski was unable to defend his title in a court-ordered defense against mandatory challenger William Guthrie within a little over a month."

    That's how boxing politics work.
Strip a dangerous opponent of his titles and hand them over to a hype-machine.

    HAHAHAHHAHAAH

Yeah, loads of champions throughout history have never held all the belts up side-by side have they WBA?

WBO is the only UN-corrupt boxing organisation in the world.
Its why you Americans hate it so much. you can't dictate its fate unless you win it honestly.

They handed Roy the belts? You mean as in he didn't even fight for them?

Lets clear something up he wasn't stripped for just holding the wba next to the wbo..He was stripped becase he refused to fight his Wba mando Lou De alle. He never contsted that stripping or his ibf belt. He dropped those belts and kept the wbo because they let him fight who ever he wanted thats why after he won the belt he went on a bum of the montu tour ! And the Wbo is organization who ranked dead fighters yet they are un corrupt :rofl

A 220 pound HW, is a big puncher to a 34 year old LHW.

Ruiz wasn't picked because he was the weakest.

Roy almost fought Evander, until King angered him.

    Why have you mentioned Spinks?

To my knowledge, nobody has said Roy's win was better than Spinks's.

    It clearly wasn't.

But that doesn't mean it wasn't a great win.

Roy was older than Spinks, he'd had more fights, and he was originally a MW.

Now obviously, Ruiz was nowhere near the fighter that Holmes was, but you have to take many things into account when rating a win.

In 2003, Joe couldn't unify with Ottke.

At that point, Lacy and Kessler had done nothing.

Joe said he'd nothing left to achieve, and he wanted a new challenge at LHW, where his speed would give him a huge advantage.

    What did he do?

    Nothing!

Roy couldn't unify at SMW, so he moved up.

    Yet you criticise him.

Joe couldn't unify, yet he stayed.

Joe doesn't possess psychic powers to my knowledge.

He didn't know what was going to happen with Lacy and Kessler.

So you're criticising Roy for showing ambition, while at the same time, praising Joe for not showing any. Again, he could have fought Gonzalez for DM's old belt.

Unifying the division after ten years by beating Kessler, wasn't an incredible feat.

Neither was scraping past Bernard at LHW.

Regarding a unification at SMW, again, Roy was the IBF champ. Liles was the WBA champ. Benn was the WBC champ.

Collins had the WBO that wasn't respected or rated by the Ring.

So how could the IBF along with the WBO have unified the division?

You haven't got a clue mate.

    It's been done to death.

There's loads of links that counter the above.

Tell us what DM and Kohl did to make the fight?

Go and look at DM's resume.

It's clear to anyone with a brain what his intentions were.

You can sum up the whole fiasco, by saying that neither guy would travel.

But don't try and BS us, by saying that DM wanted the fight.

    It's laughable.

    Ha!

It was Dino who first told me about Morris being moved up the rankings AFTER he'd died.

The WBO were a laughing stock in the 90's.

It was Sugarboy Malinga who had the WBC belt.
Are you really classing him as a threat to either Collins or Jones?
He may have beaten Benn and took his title via SD.
Collins DESTROYED BENN and made him retire.

People weren't pining for Liles vs Jones, or Malinga vs Jones.
    They knew these were mismatches.
Collins in many people's eyes was the best SMW, Jones was rightly classed as Top 2 at the time.
It just makes sense to see who was the best.
Collins wanted the fight. Jones didn't

History books will always remember this.

    As for Joe!
He was in no rush to move up in weight as he knew he was a SMW and regarded as the number 1 guy in the division. Same way Ward is today.
The difference between Joe and Ward is this. Joe sold out stadiums. He was content with what he had. He wasn't chasing Sven in his backyard.
Everybody knew Joe was number 1 because Lacy and Kessler went to his backyard to take his crown. He took their belts and decided there was nothing left for him at SMW(Froch was a nobody and would have got his ass beat anyhow)

Joe decided to take on Hopkins on foreign soul to cement his legacy.
He cemented it pretty good by beating Hopkins & being a 2 division weight champion. Something Ward was afraid to do in his fight with Dawson.

They were known as the WBOGUS in the 90's for nothing . No one thought of them as a major title

Malinga had the WBC after beating Benn.

The point is, Roy fighting Collins COULD NOT have unified the SMW division.

What don't you understand about that?

Benn had already retired once after the Malinga loss.

Beating Benn at that stage was nothing great.

    Nobody has mentioned Ward.

Joe wasn't a two weight champ when he scraped past Bernard.

He only won the Ring belt.

Now this is where you have to be careful not to tie yourself up.

Do you rate and respect the Ring and their belts?

If your answer is no, then Joe wasn't a champ at the weight.

If your answer is yes, then you also have to respect the fact, that the Ring didn't even have a ratings system for Collins' belt in the 90's.

    So it's over to you.

I never knew he vacated the IBO belt. No doubt due to some crappy mandatory IBO wanted him to face.
    That's hardly relevant.
Belts are just meaningless props these days.
Hopkins WAS the man at LHW when Joe faced him.
Floyd and Manny vacated plenty of belts
For instance. Manny could drop down to 140 Tomorrow and rightly be declared the champion. The number 1 guy in the division. THE guy.
    Mayweather could do the same.
Or do both have to knock out Garcia to reclaim that title? lol

You haven't responded to any of my points.

There could never have been a SMW unification between Roy and Collins.

    Collins beating Benn wasn't great.

Joe was never a two weight world champ.

You can't criticise Roy's career path, whilst giving praise to Joe at the same time.

    Please answer the above points.
