That "somebody" with 20 fights was an Olympian with two fisted power. He was the favorite and never lived up to his potential because he was ruined that faithful night. Rigo only has 11 or so fights and he schooled ND. So if you a good amateur background, the number of pro fight is not too important.
Hopkins is ONE name on his record. What about Glen Kelly, "Tricky" Frazier, etc. Besides it could be argued that Joe defeated a better Hopkins that Roy did. The Hopkins Roy beat was green and didn't know anything about boxing. Jones was the star and had people looking out for him. The Hopkins that Joe embarrassed was seasoned with every dirty trick in the book. The fight was with his home judges and ref and there was talk of him being on PEDS. Yet Joe STILL won comfortably.
ye but joe calzaghe would of stopped him back then, he had punching power then before his glass hands betrayed him.
The Hopkins Roy beat knew nothing about boxing? What an absolute ******ed statement.. He had over 100 amateur fights and was ranked higher than Roy by the IBF, and wouldn't lose again for over a decade. Oh yeah, and Roy beat him with a broken hand.
It depends on what you call a good win.. He beat 20 some odd former, current or future world champs... Surely a few more of them were good.
How are Julio Cesar Gonzalez, Antoine Byrd, Reggie Johnson, Eric Harding, Clinton Woods, and Glenn Kelly good wins? What did those guys accomplish before and after fighting Roy?
Gonzalez, the guy who beat DM? Reggie Johnson was still a very solid fighter and world champion. Eric Harding was a big southpaw.. Presented style problems for Roy. Clinton Woods would go to split fights with Glen Johnson. You also have to look at how Roy dominated most of those fights. Glenn Kelly and Antoine Byrd were not good wins.
What about David Telasco, Lou Del Valle, Richard Frazier, blown up Vinny Pazienza, old Mike McCallum, and Richard Hall?
most do concede that his record has some poor fighters, hes lucky he fought hopkins that time really as he went on to become a great fighter, shows how good roy was too
Those guys don't hold a candle to Tocker Pudwill. Do you know what Chris Eubank recently said when asked why he never fought Roy Jones?
