I think this is not just a tribute to his stamina but also his ability, quite new-found, to dictate tempo. He even managed to inflict some of the on Hopkins, which impressed me greatly. I think that is a well underated win. But this is different. What we can say - LaMotta has fought better fighters than Joe. He lost most of those fights. Joe has fought nobody as good as peak LaMotta. Yes, Calzaghe is good against fighters that attack him, yes, this is very different.
I do not see it mate, sorry. I do not think LaMotta has the advantages to take Calzaghe into deep water. He can also not take advantage of Calzaghe's weakness's well enough to beat him like that. Basically Calzaghe would be able to land his jab with a high frequency and be able to fire in quick combinations. LaMotta is at a disadvantage in every area, including stylistically, bar physical strength and chin and he does not have a big enough advatages in these area's to take advantage as Calzaghe is strong and has a good beard.
LaMotta could soak up any kind of punishment - Fact - Zag's just doesn't have the zip to keep Jake off him for 15 rounds. Slow drowining by Jake.
If I have to give you a reason why Jake beat's Joe, then that proves you are in the worng forum..:good
Experience - 106 pro fights for a start. What does Joe Calzaghe have in skill that 6 fights with Sugar Ray Robinson, Lamotta hasn't experienced? Does Calzaghe's deflowering of Jeff Lacy or Mikkell Kessler, good fighters and Joe's best wins, compare to beating a prime Sugar Ray Robinson - size difference aside?
Good one. He has nothing in skill, however, Jake is at a size, speed of hand and foot, workrate and most importantly style disadvantage. When did I say or suggest that.
You opened the debate, I continued with some points to continue the debate. The point is - Jake LaMotta has handled the greatest fighter pound for pound in the game in his prime - Admitedly a few pounds heavier than Ray - But I don't see what Calzaghe's in and our style does to disadvantage Jake in a 15 round fight. LaMotta will walk through every thing Joe has and press him with pressure that Joe has just not experienced in his career. Effective workrate is the key here, I opine that Jake's aggression would be more effective than Joe's. Interesting fight for Joe, I just think Jake plain out-toughs him over 15 rounds.
