After Joe's achievements over the last 18 years, he for me is without doubt the best fighter from the UK. There are a few great fighters but no one with Joe's record and longevity as a champion. A common favourite is Ken Buchanan but his lost to Duran then his demise after that taints the great champion for me, where as Joe has beat everybody infront of him, including great champions such as Eubank, Hopkins, kessler and other good fighters jeff lacy and robin reid.
Well whenever these threads are brought up everyone gets into all the technical bull****(his mother in law twice removed wasn't from British decent!) so I guess I couldn't disprove you one way or the other. Though there are fighters that are commonly ranked British that would very clearly outrank him, and by some distance as well.
Yep, you could maybe make a case for JC being best post-War (I'd still go for LL though) but 'ever'?? No chance.
If you consider Lennox to be British, there's an insanely obvious one that even the General Forum boobs would know that outranks Joe.
IMO he will go down as 2nd best in hindsight and when he has retired. lennox lewis will remain first .
He was born in the UK and fought as a pro out of the UK so we'll take him. Fitz is the borderline call IMHO, he was born in the UK but never lived there as an adult or ran his career from there.
lewis ad to many notable slip ups....rahman, mccall and wasnt overly impressive when he fought Vitali Klitschko. I think Joe's '0' keeps him ahead
The man never got in the ring with a sinle real top draw opponent in there prime. Its impossible to say how good or bad he was. The fight against 43 year old popkins gave us a slight idea. Calzaghe is definatly not the best British boxer ever by a long shot.
