we don't know, who he might have beaten in his prime because he never tried to fight american champions (in their prime too) for 15 years and preferred to defend his **** wbo belt.

this nevertheless didn't hinder the "pride of wales" to call out james toney in 2006 when he already fought at heavyweight weighing 230 pounds and having no chance go down even to cruiserweight.

How so? Calzaghe is a fantastically gifted fighter athletically, and has more dimensions to his game than someone like Pacquiao, as well as Toney.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Toney able to counter effectively in this one and win, though Joe could very well win it himself.

I don't think Toney would have the versatility, the handspeed, or the mobility to beat Calzaghe, who's too good at ad******g his own gameplan and adapting in the ring to fight the style of fight Toney likes and is most successful at. I think Calzaghe would decision him.

Calzaghe would need to actually think about what he's doing from the first bell. No foolishly charging in str8 away chin high throwing arm punches in Toney's general direction.

More demensions that James? Not quite but yes...more demensions that PAC. No doubt that JOe is gifted and skilled. But I'm talking styles....prime for prime there are no age or youth advatnages so the prediction is based purely on styles and what each fighter brings to the ring.....going off of the styles it's clear that it favors the counter puncher....regarding PAC, my point is PAC has some natrual GIFTS that are unmatched by JMM.....There are no gifts that JOE or James have that are better or worse than the other.....I do think JOe is faster but James much more polished and crafty.....given those variables my equation equals out to a win for James...PRIME FOR PRIME>

Yes, Calzaghe has more dimensions to his game than James, who at his best was a fantastic in-fighter with good mid-range skills but mediocre to poor footwork. Calzaghe has a very good jab and outboxing skills to go along with a very high workrate and very crafty inside game.

Toney would likely land some crisp shots, which would probably down Calzaghe early on, but Calzaghe's adaptability and footspeed would be the major issues for the chronically flat-footed Toney. People never seem to take that major weakness into account when assessing Toney, even the best version.
