Stripped of his title for not being able to defend against Rakhimov. Seems harsh as he is injured and only has the title. Should at least get a title shot on his return.

Bit of a blow for Matchroom although Zelfa Barrett now in line to challange for the vacant title.

Yet the French CW world champion hasn't fought since 2019?

I know IBF is more strict than other governing bodies (which I normally applaud them for) but this is very harsh considering Cordina only won the belt in June.

Unfortunate but IMO there should be a rule where if a single belt champion doesn't defend the belt within 6 months he gets stripped.

Very harsh. I am sure they were planning on a big domestic fight between Cordina and Barrett. Rakhmiov would have been a good test for Cordina too.

Surely injury should circumvent that. Agree on premise but if there is a legitimate injury you should have a 12 months

Will Cordina consider moving up? All the big money fights are at 135-140lbs.

IBF rules plus Rakimov stepped aside so Joe could challenge for the belt, it's only fair the lad gets his shot. If Barrett beats him Joe will get a shot at getting the belt back unless he chases a money fight by moving up.
IBF are the best of the ABC orgs and I hope moving forward they follow the same president and all the inactive duckers from every division get stripped.

This makes no sense. I reckon somethings happened behind the scenes that they aren’t saying

Totally agree and they get first shot versus winner if stripped due to genuine injury.

Leo Santa Cruz hasnt defended his WBA feather title since 2019, whilst Leigh Wood has been beating good opposition for the regular title. And to this day Santa Cruz has nothing scheduled and still no sign of him being stripped

Brits are having the short straw with organisations lately

It does seem harsh. Let's hope he gets installed at number one in the rankings and Barrett wins the vacant title as it would be a domestic world title clash I'd love to see. I think Pat Barrett is underrated as a trainer and seems a decent honest trainer with no bs.

I know Cordina seemed to be making sluggish progress before the title win but it was a great way to win a belt. Here's hoping his hand heals and we see him back in Spring 2023.
