In so many words, Joe Cortez revealed that if he is an enemy of the Mexican boxers, he would not have allowed Marquez to continue fighting after he was knocked 3 times by Pacquiao in their first fight.

"If I were the enemy of Mexican fighters

I allowed him to continue and he put up the fight of his life.” -- Joe Cortez

This statement of Joe Cortez has just vindicated Manny Pacquiao as the true winner of the first fight w/ JMM. He revealed his true character as "friend of Mexican boxers". He was therefore biased in favor of Marquez in that fight. He should not be allowed to officiate in future matches featuring Mexican boxers, let alone Marquez as opponent of Pacquiao.

I think this happened when JMM recently asked for the inhibition of Cortez as the third man in the ring in his fight against JD.

He should have said, "I am a neutral referee. I am not a friend or enemy of anyone or any nationality." He's in deep **** on this remark.

double-edged sword for cortez. he tried to defend himself about the marquez inhibition. In so doing, he will be axed by the others

This is new one, *****! This a new revelation by the referee himself.
He should be investigated for this statement for declaring that he is a friend of Marquez/Mexican boxers. It showed his bias. Marquez, in his opinion should be allowed to continue, but he allowed him, nevertheless, because he is a friend. Get that? :deal

Get a real life, dude !

    *******s give Manny's fans a bad rep.

Cortez was pointing out the unfairness of JMM's allegations of bias and, to bolster his case said:

(Referee Joe Cortez spoke to Puerto Rican newspaper Primera Hora about recent comments made by Juan Manuel Marquez criticizing the potential selection of Cortez as referee for his Feb. 28 fight against Juan Diaz.)

Put the comments in their proper context.

Clearly, JMM doesn't feel he got preferential treatment.

And how does that statement prove that Pac won the fight ?

You're missing some grey matter, lad.

Pac, IMO, DID win the fight. The result was a draw, but one of the goofball refs later admitted he didn't understand the rules and would have scored the first round 10-6 if he'd had more time to read up on scoring.

But Cortez played no role, pro or con either man in this fight.

IMO, Pac narrowly won both fights. But they were so close that I could live with two draws or a split of the series.

    I hope they fight again.

But I don't expect that to happen.
