How come he is getting inducted before he retires? Is it different fo refs than boxers? Anyone know of any other active refs who have been inducted?
cortez deserves it for the way he referee'd mayweather v hatton and hopkins v calzaghe. no other ref in boxing history has changed their entire referee'ing philosphy within the space of a few weeks to help american fighters.
Lol. You're a dick. lol. He was all up on Hatton though. He was just waiting to tell dude to stop fighting the way that he always fights yet he doesn't tell Maweather anything about his elbow.
Cortez was actually a good ref for awhile before the last few years when he started sucking. Stallone getting in isn't that big a deal IMO either. The boxing HOF has non-participants/observers who contributed to the sport: writers, broadcasters, promoters, etc. I'm guessing Schulberg is mainly because of the fiction books/scripts he wrote on boxing rather than his other work as a sportswriter.
A good ref should stay the **** out of the way for the most part while paying close attention to the fighters' safety and only really injecting himself into the action in the case of serious or repeated fouls or in the event that a fighter is in serious trouble, and Joe's fat ass just can't do that. He's famous because his fat ****ing face is in the camera constantly every time he refs a fight. I swear he thinks people are there just to see him. **** Cortez and **** his whole family. **** Stallone too. That ***** don't box, he just made a bunch of **** boxing movies.
Of course Stallone should be in you morons. It's called the HALL OF FAME, I bet if you asked people around the world to think of what comes to mind when they heard the word boxing a huge percentage would say Rocky, It did a massive amount for the sport and got a whole generation of people to become fighters
I think putting Stallone in there is even far worse than putting in Cortez. Ok, he was the star and writer of the best boxing movie ever made, but I mean seriously... It's a movie, and factually wrong one at that (entertainment value, I get it) and he's an actor that obviously cannot box! atsch Next up... Mickey Rourke > At least he actually "boxed"
Raging Bull kicks the **** out of all the **** ass Rocky's combined. Every time he's getting the **** kicked out of him and then all of a sudden he reels off like 50 straight slow ass haymakers in a row which all land flush before the dude hits the canvas. I find that bull**** insulting.
nobody said they were, wasn't there a time when you needed to be an exceptional standout to be inducted into the hall of fame? now any old fool whos been in the business for over 3 years gets in. so if I write a few boxing screenplays do I get in?
the fights in rocky are embarrassing, one round of that kind of punishment would leave arturo gatti (RIP) in a coma
ok so Rocky isnt to everyones taste, thats fair enough. I loved the first two rocky's and felt the rest were medicore. but the fact remains that through sylvester stallone and the rocky franchise, millions of people who may never have really otherwise taken an interest in boxing, did so! it has been undoubtedly a great contribution to the sport. so stop ****ing whining
