Poor Kirkland... he was dropped 4 times in that fight. 3 times by Ishida, and once by Cortez.

Maybe I wouldn't blame a rookie referee for jumping in and stopping the fight at that point, but Joe is a world class ref of many fights. He should really know better. 3 knockdowns does not equal an automatic stoppage in my book. :bart

Cortez made the right decision in both the JMM-Pac fight and this one. You can point to the fact that they were both three-knockdown fights, but the scenarios were totally different, and the reactions of the fighters after the knockdowns were different. Kirklkand was on ***** street and off balance from the first punch that landed.
JMM was battling the whole time, he kept getting caught because, like a dummy, he kept moving to his right against a hard-hitting southpaw.
Once he got back to the corner and they told his dumbass to move left, everything changed.

It's not just about the knockdowns. He was CONSTANTLY getting badly hurt by jabs and chicken dancing / stiff leg jiving when ever the most glancing shot landed. He had nothing left.

Cortez refused to allow Hatton to fight on the inside against Void, then he took a point away from Hatton for accidently hitting one of the ring ropes! Check it out, it's on tape!

Kirkland was out of it, would have been knocked out, but if Cortez had allowed him to have been knocked out cold nobody could have complained, he was done for, but...............

When Roy Jones lost to Danny Green, it was more legit than this.

well, its the ref's call to stop a fight and kirkland wasn't in good shape. in that regard, the stoppage wasn't awful, but as a ref, why the **** do you need jump on top a fighter who is trying to get up. when have you ever seen such a thing. cotez is a ***** for doing that.

Cortez actually saved the overrated Kirkland further embarrassment!!!!!

Imagine if he get knocked out unconscious which was the way the fight was going anyway as he was being rocked by JABS, instead of what is happening right now where people are saying that Cortez stopped the fight prematurely?

If I were Kirkland, I would give half my purse to Cortez.

I use to think Kirkland was just cheap imitation or another safeway ripoff, but you're right they make some pretty decent cookies. I just ate some this morning too.

I think what the TS is trying to say is that other fighters have been in the same situation as Kirkland...Most notably being JMM. And the TS believes that JMM, Kirkland as well as all fighters should be TREATED THE SAME. And that fans/posters should be outraged that Cortez made a terrible call for one fighter, while not making the same call for another.

Man...If only there was another poster that was saying this SAME **** for the past two years. I wonder how different this thread would look, and how often it would be BUMPED, if I created it!!!!:-(
