I caught this on Youtube (which was better quality than the stream I got, sadly) and now I agree that the fight could have gone longer. I still think it's possible Cortez saw reason to end the fight, and if something were on the line, absolutely it should have continued. I don't think Kirkland would have fared much better afterwards, but that's irrelevant to the decision. He was definitely wobbled by some shots through, by an alleged featherfist. I'm not Cortez so I don't know what he saw, but I give the benefit of the doubt since given the circumstances that "wasn't" supposed to happen.

Seriously, if it were for a belt, that might have been called a robbery; he didn't look that bad after getting back up. But as it is, I'd call it an "acceptable" call.

Fighter gets up 2 times in seconds and clearly communicates to crooked referee he is fine.
Fighter goes down for a third time and is again getting up within 2 seconds of being on the canvas. On the way up the referee puts his knee into fighters liver and holds him to the floor. Joe Cortez you ****in scum bag.

At first I thought it was a bad stoppage but after watching the fight a few times it was apparent that kirkland was getting hit clean and often. I don't care that ishida had only 6 or 9 ko's, Cortaz did kirkland a high favor by stopping it. his legs were gone and his judgment cloudy. it was a good, professional stoppage
