While Cortez is an incompetent ref, you're an idiot if you think he should have let Kirkland continue.
hes firm but he is fair but honestly he is not my fav ref especially after the maidana khan fight much love to kenny bayless who seems to look like a complete homo moving around the ring
The real tragedy is... people on this thread who don't know the difference between 'should have' and 'should of'. That's some serious brain injury, chaps. Get it checked.
It did look strange because Cortez had to physically restrain him. Kirkland was getting up pretty much as soon as he hit the canvas. Not having been in the ring I could not personally judge the full impact the punches had on Kirkland so I'm not going to condemn Cortez. He simply got confused. He knew the Golden Boy fighter was supposed to dominate and just got confused which one it was for obvious reasons.
Yeah. It reminded me of Jacobs/Pirog. Jacobs tried to get up fast but the ref pushed him down as if to say "No stay down you're knocked out."
Joe Cortez should atleast let Kirkland get into his feet and see if he is still fit ti continue, unfotunately for kirkland Joe body slammed him :rofl
I mean cmon, there was no 3 KD rule in effect and Kirkland wasnt on ***** street by a stretch. It makes no sense why Cortez would allow one fighter to continue after 3 KDs in the first (Pac/JMM I) and not in another.
I think it was a good stoppage, the fight had entered a rhythm of Kirkland down, back up, down again, back up in wobbly fashion and so on. There was no reason for that to continue any longer than it did.
