Dear world, US, British, Welsh boxing fans, it was announced today that veteran, highly respected (and controversial by some) referee Joe Cortez will be the third man in the ring for the the upcoming April 19 big LHW showdown between undefeated Joe Calzaghe and ring veteran Bernard Hopkins. The last very big and very important (also US vs. UK) fight Joe Cortez was in charge of was the Floyd Mayweather vs. Ricky Hatton showdown in December.

"I'm delighted that an experienced and well respected referee like Joe Cortez is in charge of our fight but he's going to have very little to do apart from give Hopkins a count to ten. I don't do holding and mauling, I come to fight, and Joe is aware of that so I'm sure he will let me get on with my job. When Hopkins is getting beat up and his dream team of trainers fuss over who will throw in the towel, at least he knows that Joe will step in and save him." - Calzaghe said.

Cortez was in charge in the Hopkins vs. Allen III and the Calzaghe vs. Eubank fight a few years ago.

Lol! I agree. The first thing that comes to mind is how he over-afficiated the Mayweather vs. Hatton fight. The only thing is the dirty fighter is the american fighter as well. Lets see if he refs the fight well or if he will give bull**** calls over Calzaghe complaining in the face of obvious fouling from Hopkins. Then we will know if he was full of **** in the Mayweather, Hatton fight.
