Guys let all be honest, I have watched 100's of fights in my life time and I have seen it all last night when khan was hanging on for dear life any other ref would have stopped the fight 10 out of 10 times Joe Cortez jumped in their at least 4 or more times when Khan was just obout ready to go down all I can say Khan should be so thankfull to him and send him cristmas and birthday gifts for the rest of his life, beleave me I like Khan and am so happy he won because I hade a huge amount of money on this fight my leggs where shaking during those moments but the fact is he was lucky and I was lucky that JOE CORTEZ was the ref.

I've seen alot worse. Khan was still using his legs, you don't stop a fight just cause the guy is wobbly

Cortez is a "****" ref I cringe at his work, He always manages to make himself a storyline inside the fight.

Exactly. Khan was hurt, but he made to the end of the round. Cortez was aware of the one minute rest he'd recieve.

the problem was Khan wasn't throwing much back in the 10th, he used his movement to get him out of bother.

Cortez warned him at the end of the round that he wasn't going to allow much more of that to continue.

To fair the champion should always get every opportunity, however if that fight was in the UK with a UK ref I have a feeling that it would have been stopped.

Cortez is an odd one really. Hopkins was lucky Cortez was the ref against Calzaghe letting him hold all night and letting him have time out etc. Hatton was unlucky Cortez was the ref against Mayweather, not letting him work up close. Soto was unlucky Cortez was the ref when DQ him

If he stopped it there alot of people on here would have said it was premature. Yes he was hurt but he could move about.

Maidana had all round to knock him out, but couldn't. Fair play to the champ.

At one time cortez jumped between them and all most held khan from falling over go watch it over again he would hav never made it to the end of the round.

I've been watching fights for 20+ years, and I've seen considerably worse. Marcos never was able to pin him somewhere and land a bunch of unanswered clean shots.

Khan was still being defensive and moving. You stop a fight when the the other guy is defenseless.

Also, you take into account who is winning the fight up until that point. If Marcos had been blowing out Khan all night and would have been well ahead on the cards, you go ahead an stop it. Khan was winning the fight handily up until that round, and you aren't going to stop the fight the first time he get's his bell rung.

If you've watched that many fights, you'd know this.

well cortez is a **** ref.

As for that 10th round. I don't think it should have been stopped. But Khan was lucky as there are a lot of refs that would have stopped him, he wasn't throwing anything back for a good 1:30 of that round. Nobody can complain about it though Khan was on shaky legs for a long time and maidana had his chance to stop him but couldn't.

He was allowing khan to grab a whole lot there and in some fights I have seen points taken, warnings issued, dqs. One of marquez early fights this runner guy I think walker was his name was holding and holding and the ref actually waved it off like twenty seconds before the end of the fight. I had JMM winning at the time but the judges score cards were actually for the running guy! The ref gave marquez the victory.

I think Joe let him hold and gave him too long to rest on separations, but if i were a big fan of khan I would be like, he is doing a good job on those breaks so you know its all relative and it was not excessively corrupt.

Funny how nobody complained about how Cortez let Hopkins hold all night when he was losing to Calzaghe
