see Juan Manuel Lopez versus Rogers Mtagwa for a similar scenario. Guy just holding on, not punching but staying up on weak legs.

Could have been stopped last night but there might have been a riot.

Regardless, everytime I see Cortez refereeing a fight, he ALWAYS tries to steal the spotlight or something, he pisses me off.

Cortez used to be a great ref but I think it's time for him to retire. I dont think that he should have stopped the fight in the 10th but I dont think that he should have jumped in and broke the action so much as he did.

Like the commentators were saying at times both fighters had a free hand while they were holding and were throwing punches and he didnt let them break on their own.

The point deduction without a warning was a little too harsh I think, but that is my opinion.

To the guys that are talking about you need to take into consideration that fighter A was winning the fight should be a consideration in determining whether you stop a fight is not right. If a fighter is hurt and seems unable to continue should the ref try and figure out who is ahead on the scorecards or should he have the fighter's health into consideration over the results of a boxing match?

Cortez is an ******* not because he did not stopped the fight. I agree like many here that he shouldn't have stopped the fight. Khan is still defending well.

    - What is that point deduction without warning? I didn't see Maidana hit Khan but the slight of elbow to the Cortez with Maidana showing disgust.

    - Maidana was in a middle of an onslaught and Cortez, for some reasons, just comes inside and break them apart! Really stupid. One writer says Cortez just say "okay, okay" or does not say anything while breaking them apart. At one time, he was talking in Spanish to two Russian fighters!!! Pathetic. That HOF award shall be recalled back.

You stop a fight when a fighter becomes defenseless and keeps getting hit with clean hard shots, something that did NOT happen last last. Khan covered up well and Maidana, well is not particularly the fastest or sharpest puncher there is.

Thist is what he does, protect the household name, he did it against Casamayor and has done it numerous times.

the fact of the matter is that Khan did not go down. That proves he could defend himself sufficiently does it not?

I did wonder why Cortez stepped in to break the fight when nothing was worth stepping in for..... I thought at one point when Khan was taking a few good ones in close that Cortez was stopping the fight, but he simply broke them when there was no good reason to.:think

actually its a good thing it wasn't stopped. Khan later went on to comeback with some good shots in the last 2 rounds.

something I didn't like in this fight is that stupid point deduction.
