what are peoples opinion on him?

he seems to have his fair of dodgy fights, and really doesnt let fighters fight on the inside

will anything be said about his performances as a referee,

and should he be called to account?

He's been a liability for quite a while. He's been ****ing up calls for years. If he'd been on the ball rather than talking to the time-keeper we might have got more of a fight.

paid off and doesnt even try to hide it, the hatton/mayweather fight was disgusting looking back at it, yes hatton would have lost anyway, and there was backlash at the time, it seemed like sour grapes from hatton fans, but it really WAS that bad

watch how many times mayweather elbowed hatton in the face and jammed his forearm into his throat and not a word about it, hatton misses a palm punch when mayweather turns his back and gets a point deducted immediately for punching the back of the head, not to mention the hypocrisy on the holding rule

Wasn't that for the WBC and afterwards the WBC overturned his decision!! Then they stated he would never referee a fight governed by the WBC. So how did he worm his way back??? Surely that is the last we see of Joe 'Firm but incompetent' Cortez

Soto vs Lorenzo I. They had a re-match and Soto beat him up like he did in first fight. Awful decision from Cortez tbh when i saw him in the ring last night i shook head..

I don't like to see people dismiss his performance as being 'one of those things'. That wasn't just a minor **** up, he was solely responsible for the end of the fight. Even now, after so many interviews and discussion, nobody knows what was actually happening. Had he restarted the fight or had he not? If he had, why did he then talk to the timekeeper? And if he hadn't restarted the fight, why was it not a DQ or a TD?

It's just a disgrace. Boxings biggest event of the year, a card stacked with excellent bouts and in the main event, this inept clown puts a dampener on everything. There is no talk of Morales winning a fourth world title, his brave opponent who got battered, there's no talk of Canelo vs. Gomez, which was a fun fight, there's no talk of Mayweather's weaknesses - Despite the positives and interesting events on the night, we are all focusing on one terrible decision by a referee who should have retired years ago and that's a shame.
