Lets put this to bed hatton got beat of a better fighter, but cortez should have allowed hatton to do what hopkins the did against joe.
Cortez is and for the most part always was a hack and a widely inconsistent one. In his first few years as referee he wasn`t all that bad, but after a while the whole "I`m fair but I'm firm" shtick came into play and he has been horrible ever since. He is overly officious and worse of all he acts like HE is the main attraction, not the fighters in front him and this is not good. Joe Cortez should pack it in as far as reffing goes if these kinda dangerous calls are all he has left. All it takes is one fight too many from a fading ref to get someone hurt. Some might bring up the name of Ruby Goldstein here. As for the cluster of officials that Cortez was holding pow-wow with while a boxer lay leeding and unattended in the ring, you'd think one of these morons might have had the sense to say "Hey Joe, why don't you send the Doc over to check the man out while we figure out this call for you." or something to that effect. What a disrgace from all the officals involved.
