Dawson doesn't dare say Diaconu's name. Chad knows who he is, and he ran to the WBC President's house in Mexico to get out of fighting him. He even dropped his belt to avoid Diaconu. Sad Chad's ducked him repeatedly. Calz didn't fight Pavlik, a better and more accomplished fighter than Dawson. And he just beat The Ring's LHW titlist. No need for him to fight Chad "I Fear Diaconu" Dawson unless Joe wants to.
Why does it matter whether it was the best version of Hopkins? When it comes to resume all that matters is who you beat and how good they were when you beat them. Calzaghe beat someone who is, by consensus, amongst the top four P4P boxers in the world. Newsflash: nobody is handicapping by age. The achievement is exactly the same if the P4P number four is a 43 man past his peak or a 27 year old at his absolute prime. As an aside, I'd love to hear the argument that you think can be made for calzaghe being at his peak for the Hopkins match.
Based on what ? The fact that he has a leaky defence and shaky chin or the fact that he lost to Glen Johnson ? Dawson would crumble at the hands of a world class ring technician such as Calzaghe or Hopkins. See the rounds he looks totally helpless and confused against Glen Johnson ? **** me what would he do against Calzaghe who has PLan A B C and D.
erm but didnt dawson go life and limb with glen lol, lets get something straight dawson never called out calzaghe, his a punk, he should give glen a rematch before claiming ****. its funny how he never calls out diaconu? wanna tell me why?
Not that I want to defend Calzaghe's attitude but he's 36 now and can't go on forever... Let the new generation battle it out among itself, Calzaghe paid his dues and will go down in history as a very dominant smw. Dawson should unify the lhw title and continue to build up his own legacy.
Ok:think .....I see your point...but it absolutely matters how good they were when you beat them. That we can agree on right? Newsflash: In Boxing AGE is definitley a factor....of course there are exceptions to the rules and at some point all the stars and planets align for one exceptional performance ever 100 yrs or so but that's not the norm. Bhop being in the P4P ranks is something special in itself but to say that this version of Bernard is physically jsut as good as a Physically PRIME Bhop makes no sense at all. Which is where your posts looses validity. Regarding Joe being at his best.....I honestly believe that. OVerall Joe is still physically prime....his new experience against truely great oppostition has only amplified his knowledge and craft as of late. Bhop when he faced Joe was a TRUE test for bernard as well as Joe, but to say Joe would have had the same difficulties facing Bernard 5, 6 or 7 yrs prior agian, makes no sense.
Responding to your post and others in this one post. Joe is retiring, and Dawson is young. Who is Carl Froch, and someone said Syd Vanderpool called Cal out:rofl. Cal did pull out of a fight with Johnson due to an injury, that happens. You guys have to get off of the Cal thing. You Pav fans are looking terrible to us posters crying about Cal lol...
Johnson hits a lot harder than Calzaghe (you will see this evidenced in JC's fight against a lot older, more shot Roy Jones). Dawson is excellent against southpaws and correct me if I'm wrong, but Calzaghe has never faced an elite souhtpaw in his entire career (Dawson has beaten both Harding and Tarver). Chad hits harder than Calzaghe, has better footwork, and punches just as fast. He has the gas tank to keep up with Joe and the chin (ironically enough) to take Calzaghe's best. Also, Dawson has better headmovement than Calzaghe and is a sharper puncher on the outside. This, combined with his huge height and reach advantages, mean Calzaghe will be busted up boxing at a distance (which was not the case against Robo-Kessler), and will have to fight inside the whole 12 rounds. Here he will be punished by Chad's lead uppercuts and body work. Calzaghe's chin is good enough to go the distance and he has the skills to nick some rounds, but overall he will be comprehensively outboxed by a more talented, younger counter-puncher.
No, he is the guy who made the fight, and then Dianconman pulled out and asked for the fight to be made 2 more times while Dawson fought Johnson and Tarver. Now that Tarver has gotten both old men out of the way, maybe Dianconman can fight someone with a pulse and outside of his element.
If I had said that this version of BHOp is physically as good as he was in his prime, that would be true. But I didn't. I said beating a 43 year old post prime fighter who is ranked at number 4 P4P would be the same level of achievement as beating a 27 year old prime fighter who was ranked at number four P4P in the same talent pool. Lets try it this way. Usain Bolt runs two one hundred metre races. In the first he faces a former Olympic champion and world record holder who is now past his best. Bolt wins in 9.92 seconds, whereas the other guy runs a still respectable 10.00 seconds. In the second he faces a runner who has been steadily improving and is now at the absolute peak of his career. Bolt wins in 9.92 seconds, whereas the other guy runs 10.00 seconds. Which performance was better from Bolt?
