Joe Fraizer vs Rocky Marciano

One of those fights where years (plural) are getting taken off of both men's lives.

Jesus, this would have been brutal due to both men not backing down.

One thing is for sure: The doctors & surgeons would have there work cut out afterwards!

There's not many HW fights I can think of that would have been as brutal or exciting as this.

Frazier in the 10th.

 

I think we can all agree both guys would leave a piece of themselves in the ring.

 

Marciano leaned to the right in his crouch , which would be straight into the path of Frazier's hook!

Yes he did, but he never ko'd or dropped anyone with it ,Marciano destroyed Louis and Mathews with left hooks!

 

A straighter blow...right hand beats a hooking blow...left hook to the punch. Happens all the time especially when one fighter has such a great right as did Marciano.

Ali was a much taller fighter than Frazier. Ali stood straight up putting his body, hips, within easy access to Joes hook. In contrast Marciano was short and fought in a deep crouch putting his body much more out of reach.

Frazier was known as a one armed hwt. This was very understood during that time. Even going into his bout with Ali in 75 Joe was working on his right hand to try to improve it. Joe lacked good coordination between his left and right fists. This is illustrated as he never knocked out or even down any pro opponent at any time with his right hand. HAD he had a right hand as good as his left hook both in terms of coordination and power he would have been a much more formidable opponent and probably would have stopped Ali in 71.

 

Marciano's body might not be in reach but his head would! Anyone disputing this just has to watch the first round of the Walcott fight! Why do you keep on about Frazier's right ?I'm talking about him being able to land his left hook on Marciano's chin?Frazier was a great body puncher against all opponents, if you can land on their bodies you can land on the shorter Marciano's chin which would be at the same height.
Why do you insist on talking about Frazier as if the rest of us didn't see him come up from the Olympics and follow his progress from his kd by Mike Bruce in his second fight through his wins over Daniels,Bonavena,Machen,Jones etc ? Do you think you are the only one who was around watching boxing in the 60's?

McVey. YOU were the one who kept insisting Frazier had a great right hand until I let you know he never even knocked ANY pro opponent down with it! COMMON knowledge that Joe did not have a right hand during that time and you had no idea. Why if you did live through and follow hwt boxing during that time?

Regarding landing a left hook on Marciano a low bobbing crouch allowed Marciano to avoid many left hooks by Walcott. Walcott missed many more hooks than he landed on Marciano. Frazier in actuality was much more susceptible to being hit by hooks as he would not close distance quickly. Joe many times would be hit by follow up left hooks as he bobbed up OUT of his crouch.

Ali himself stated Marciano was better than Joe Frazier.

 

It was honestly a figure of speech. Exaggeration.
