Most sprinters are 6 foot or more and weigh around 180. They have incredibly muscled llean legs, they dont have chicken legs.
They also focus on power, and obviously springing. Donovan Bailey said he never ran more than 200m at any one time so as not to not damage his fast twitch fibres.

Boxers on the other hand go for 5 mile runs at altitude, and train to be able to move for 12 rounds.
In other words, they do everything an athletic trainer would tell you to do TO LOSE dynamic sprinting speed.

Boxers tarining as boxer would have to have frightening natural genetics to be fast in a 100m race.

    10,000m,they might be decent.

    ...idiot

you goddamn idiot. this has no relevance whatsoever to the discussion at hand. we were talking about the size of legs, not how well boxers would do in running.

    they got chicken calves.

Yep, it looked like with proper technique Joe would have lfted it fine. The other guy got the weight to his chest first then used his entire body to push up. Joe had no clue, he tried to pick the weight up from the bar and carry it straight away.

IMO the best athletes to do well in this kind of comp would be MW-LHW. Strong enough to handle the strength tests, usually tall enough to do well in the runs and light enough to handle endurance/gym/long distance run test, also better coordination.

Ok fine, most boxers do have skinny chicken lags. I can show you dozen of pizcs showing this.

They do not proportionally look anything like sprinters.

My original point was that boxers would be poor sprinters which was shows in the opening thread.

Dont really know what you're talking about

    Idiot

Damn straight! Just goes to show Boxing is not a bodybuilding or weightlifting competition.

    I love Joe Frazier.

I remember this show. Frazier did terribly but was a great heavyweight fighter who would have destroyed Lance Allworth or Bubba Smith. This is why it's ridiculous to say the best heavyweights are in the NFL. They were never the guys in the NFL, even though those guys are great athletes. Boxing is a super specialized skill, almost like hitting a pitched baseball. Only certain freaks in the population combine the stamina, toughness, chin and hand/punching coordination to be great.

how does this show anything of the sort? The fact is that the talent pool among 200+lb athletes, regardless of whatever talent they may or may not have for boxing, has moved into a lot of different sports. It's a percentage by population thing, not "all football players are good boxers" thing

that's like sayin why isn't michael phelps that fast at running? why would he be? he's not a runner, he's a swimmer. everybody has their thing that they're very good at, with joe it was boxing, and strength, not running or swimming and probably many other sports. You got some sportsmen though that are so gifted that they're very good at multiple sports, not everyone though is that talented.

It's a mistake to compare weightlifting directly to functional strength in the ring. I'd imagine Foreman could lift a lot more weight than Ali but he doesn't look like he's manhandling the man in the clinches at all. Leverage, technique, and balance are way more important than just raw strength by numbers.

    :rofl:patsch

The NFL has been around for over 75 years and just now the best athletes are in the NFL and not Boxing? I don't buy that silly argument one bit.

Only because you don't understand it. Just because the sport is AROUND for a long time doesn't mean ****. I guess you don't understand because you're a UK poster but here incentive to go into boxing, and exposure are very low. The NCAA and colleges provide tons of pluses to go into team sports, hell even wrestling has more financial backing than boxing. It's a result of changing attitudes and attention on boxing in the U.S... And it's directly observable in the quality of our fighters since the 1990s, and amateur competitors.

Well, Joe Frazier barely got up 160lbs, there are 160lbs men who do that easily. It just goes to show powerpunching is kind of mysterious and something you have within, likewise with being a fighter.

People are born fighters, they're not fighters due to some physical talents.
