For me, Ali wins by clear decision, he ran Joe close enough in 71 & the 67 version was so much better, it really is simple logic... well, there is loads of other stuff too that me & Mcgrain discussed on another post but Im off to bed now & will check this out tomorrow.

    Cheers :good

Well i agree on the winner, even if more of a pure boxer stylistically is not good against Joe Frazier. I basically just see it as the great Muhammad Ali wins the fight, as absurd an analysis as that might sound.

Ugh, I guess I'm commited seeing as I said a 74 Ali beats a 71 Joe. In all fairness I can only be confident to say that in a 12 round situation (Which is what the II fight was and which is what I believe I said. If otherwise that's a correction here).

I don't want to take away or try to discredit Joe.

If there's one thing that was underrated by Ali it was probably his punch volume/work-rate in his absolute best. Seeing him in his prime is so beautiful to watch him just jab and work off combos and dance for so much. However, I do believe a post Ali had better power. Some may despute that, but even Ali himself said that he had hand problems that mysteriously went away after his comeback. He also said he learned how to sit on his punches a bit more.

I'm not going to answer the poll. But I will say that this matchup right here would be the greatest heavyweight fight of all time. Very close, obviously I lean towards Ali just a tad. Just to be indecisive and fair I'll say a draw :p

*Edit* Why am I doing this. Ali wins. I can't deny the fact that Ali of 67 and FOTC are two different animals. Ali didn't have the legs to move as much for 15 rounds and he didn't have the same stamina. Also his timing wasn't there. Even in that fight Joe doesn't blow him out, he just takes it in the championship rounds.

So, I'll say Ali wins via decision. I'm still not voting though :bbb:cool:

When I finally got to see FOTC for the first time, I was shocked by how decisively Frazier beat Ali. Though Ali had his moments, the fight wasn't really close. I believe that these two would be roughly even if both were matched at their very best with Ali winning some and Frazier winning some.

I pick Joe over Ali but by the smallest of margins. In 1971, the fight wasn't close at all.

Ali didn't have the generalship to keep Joe off of him and he would find his way in. Ali was very prone to the left hook even then; Joe's sunday punch. Also, Ali might be hurt badly because it seemed he couldn't take that punch as well back then.

Ali didn't sit on his punches and wouldn't earn Joe's respect.

Eventually Ali would stop dancing because Frazier's pressure is just too fast, too much and Ali couldn't keep moving all night. This is where Jow would take it to him to win the skinniest of decisions.

Doesn't that have to do more with that not being tested enough? Still you see the body shots he takes and some clean shots he takes blind against Liston. Ali filled his body/bone-structure out around 64-65. I think in 66-67 he would be fine taking the shots he took in 71. Why would time off help this? Faulty logic.

Bull****, only rds 11 & 15 are what split them, Ali landed constantly on Joe, Joe`s punches had more behind them the majority of the time but he took an awful lot throughout the whole fight, he took more than Ali, probably more damage too judging by the hospital stories.

A 1967 version would move more & there is only one man that will be doing the scoring when Ali is moving & it aint Frazier... his stamina, speed, punch output & legs were all much better in 67, much better, dont dispute this please because I`ll quickly lose interest in the conversation as any **** should easily be able to see this.

How does a much better version of Ali not do better than a worse version ? :huh

I personally think its wishful thinking to say Frazier beats prime Ali when he was taken to the absolute limit in their actual fight, wishful thinking.

Go watch Ali vs Liston, Williams, Terrell, Folley etc.... plain & simply a better fighter than the one that fought Frazier, look how slow he looked vs Bonavena, even Howard Cosell thought he was shot.

You guys truly baffle me at times, you really do.

    :rofl

Physically he was much more filled out in his post exile career. He weighed in the low 200's in the late 60's; I feel he's vulnerable to going down from Frazier's left hook. In the 70's, he weighed more and seemed to learn how to roll with punches better.
