    I never thought Joe was dull, and I always thought he conducted himself with a lot more class than many heavyweight champions did after him. Watched a lot of interviews on YouTube of Joe. He was the kind of guy you'd want as a friend, neighbor, or brother. I met him in 2007 and he only reinforced this opinion.

    In regard to Hayes, it's clear track and field advances are largely technological . A great video on this by David Epstein explains this.

    This video would also be one of the cornerstones of an argument I would use (along with decline of participation in the sport, far less bouts fought per year, more belts, erosion of skills due to amateur influence, etc) in explaining why boxers from the 30's - 50's are collectively the apex of the sport.
