Ali was a dick to Joe Frazier. Anyone who says otherwise is simply out of their mind.

No doubt Ali totally mistreated Frazier. Ali had the nerve on live tv to call Joe ignorant which led to Joe confronting Ali physically. Both Joe and Ali knew this was a fight promotion but Ali took it to an extreme....way over the line.

Quite a shame really. I met Joe several times through the years. You could not find a nicer more decent person to hang out with. Although Joe did not speak well he was no dummy...lots of street smarts.

I visited Frazier in Phila Back in 74 and 75 prior to his third bout with Ali. Watched him train many many times. He must have seen me come back to the gym over and over and he went out of his way to speak with me. I told him I was from NJ and he said with a chuckle...what are you doing livin up there! Just a real happy, friendly person...he did not seem to have a angry bone in his body...always smiling.

  3. To Ali, I think anyone who was not on his side.....was an Uncle Tom. He had so many people coming down on him, that everyone was the enemy. Whenever I hear that word though, I think of that famous Malcolm X speech.

I was only referring to athletes. I was not clear on that, I apologize. Malcolm and MLK just seemed way out of my level. They seem like Socrates and Plato for black America (Bad example lol). Ali in the other hand spoke like an average brother. It was much easier to relate to him. He seemed real while MLK and Malcolm X just seemed so unreal.

MLK and Malcolm X were the epitome of the black struggle. Its a shame that young people in general don't respect them. They both dead for what they believe in. Then we have clowns like Kayne West and Jay Z saying they are on the same level. Anyways, I think all three of them have tremendous influence on Black America.

  4. He should have moved on thought. He took it so personal. Ali was just as bad to Floyd. He thought it was the best way to hype up the fight. Floyd never took it personal, they were even friends after it.

You all should read this btw. I loved Floyd Patterson. He seemed like the nicest guy ever. Just add the www .

I always thought Ali used his "best" (read "harshest and most serious") material on Frazier because he was all too aware that Frazier was his greatest threat and he felt desperate to gain any small edge against him. In a way, I believe his treatment of Frazier was a testament to his respect and anxiety about his prowess as a fighter.

Do you know what's funny about the oft-repeated assertion that Frazier personally visited Nixon to petition for Ali's licence to be reinstated? He never even met Nixon until he was invited to Washington just a month or so after he beat Ali. It's as bad as the fools that have attempted to spin him rejecting the WBA's invite to their tournament as him protesting their decision to strip Ali.

Yeah, it doesn't get much more slanderous or personal than referring to someone as being ignorant.

  10. People over exaggerate everything. Anything he did to Joe, he did to Floyd Patterson. Floyd had nothing but praise for Ali later on. Talked about how much he helped him.

To Joe telling him this to his face on live TV after doing so many times when he was not present was I am sure the most demeaning of insults.

Ali was extremely mean to Joe Frazier and Joe chose not to forigve him which is his right. Ali made fun of his looks, his nose, punched a rubber gorilla that he called Frazier. Called him an Uncle Tom, said he was the white man's champion, made fun of the way Frazier talked and called him ignorgant. Not sure I would forgive someone those insults either. Hyping a fight or not. Ali was a total jerk to Frazier.

  13. ahh poor Joe Frazier. Did the big meanie ali hurt his little feeling. Its all jealously and envy.

Frazier wasn't a jealous or envious person if anything it's the other way around. Seeing Ali disabled today I think it was wrong for Joe to continue to poke fun at his condition and he should of let it go but I can't fault Joe for not liking the man. I'm sure their are plenty of boxers who despise other boxers it's nothing new.
