Frazier was a fraud who ducked the biggest punchers in his era.

While Ali was fighting guys like Shavers, Lyle, Foster.

Frazier was hiding in his cave, ducking the big punchers.

The only time Frazier stepped into the ring with a murderous puncher (ie Foreman), he was nailed to the canvas. His promoters knew he had a suspect chin and so did he. Hence, his reluctance to fight the biggest punchers of that era.

Foster, Lyle and Shavers all had a shot to brutalise the fraud Frazier.

A lucky punch notwithstanding,I can't see a prime Frazier losing to these guys. It's true that after 1971,Joe only had meaningful fights in those with Ali and Foreman, but he'd had no reason to fear the men you mention. Obviously Joe's 70's resume was n't as good as Ali's,or even Foreman's.

You know outside of losing to Machen, Chuvalo, Elis, Frazier, and Ali....Quarry has a better Heavyweight resume than Smokin Joe.....just saying. :nut

    Patterson
    Lyle
    Foster
    Shavers
    Spencer
    London

These are the wins that count. :good

Well Foster had his chance to force the issue but lost to Quarry...the fight was for the no1 or no2 spot in the ratings.

Cant say anything about Lyle but Shavers looks more an issue of timing.

Joe fought his fair share of very good punchers...They are risky fights for him but they are risky fights for anyone really..He was a class above, no doubt about it.

Hmmm it would certainly look that way to a new historian. let’s get one thing straight, frazier was always a lot better than foster lyle and shavers. yes he did not fight them but his victims beat all 3 of them. fraziers peak ended in 1971 anyway, after the bugner fight joe basically chased ali staying busy against opponents he already fought because the money was in ali-frazier fights. joe was basically a part time contender then looking for super fights.
foster lyle and shavers were all schooled and beat up by quarry who frazier beat within and outside his prime. there was no more demand for fights with lyle, foster and shavers than the ones joe took. as well as quarry, another frazier victim ron sander, knocked out shavers. as well as quarry, joe bugner and ali both beat Mac foster. same with lyle, frazier beat the "men"who beat the "man".
at his peak frazier was a great fighter. shavers, lyle and foster were exciting contenders but no better than machen, chuvalo, bonnavena and quarry were in their day.

Yeah he just beat the dude that beat the **** out of all of them (Quarry)

Maybe if they could actually beat Quarry they would of fought him.

Don't forget dominance of a well prepared 29-1-0 Mathis, or his derailing of the 6'5" 20-1-1 Middleton. Neither recovered from their encounters with Jerry.

Lyle, Shavers and Foster were not top challengers for the title from 1969-1973.. The best fighters in the division during that time frame were Ali, Ellis, Quarry, Mathis, Foreman and Bonavena. Frazier fought all 6 of them and defeated 5. What he chose to do after losing the title and who he elected to face is immaterial as far as I'm concerned... Joe Frazier is a man who's heart should not be questioned, and frankly I don't know if this thread is to be taken seriously.

Agreed... after FOTC, all the money was with Ali/Quarry rematches and the guys mentioned had zero leverage to get Joe in the ring(no belt/following). In the 60's, Lyle was in prison and Shavers wasn't on the map yet so it really comes down to Foster...Foster had his chance to fight Joe if he had beaten Quarry...he didn't. So, IMO, it comes down to timing as it so often does in sports.

yep. they would be good fights though. I see any version of frazier winning all of them.
