    Joe Frazier who was a slower starter against Ron Lyle the slowest starter in boxing.

    It truly pains me to say that Joe Frazier would derail the Ron Lyle express.

    Lyle never had Foreman power and hardly ever bombed out an opponent who was any good. He was gunshy after getting clobbered by Quarry a few times. What happens when he eats a few Frazier left hooks?

    first of all you are inventing every single word of your comment, guys who sparred and faced both foreman and lyle, said that their power was similar... simply foreman used it better, but in their fight you can argue that lyle looked the stronger man in the ring some moments. lyle would overpower frazier, he was bigger,stronger and more powerful... a peak frazier maybe was active enough to beat him pressuring and working to the body, but a slower, more ponderous 72-76 frazier would be an easy taget for lyle

    Lyle couldn't overpower Foreman, Ali, Quarry, Young, Bugner, Ellis, Bonavena, Peralta, but he's going to overpower Frazier? The only top level fighter he blasted out was Shavers in a life or death struggle that could easily have gone the other way. Look how easily Quarry handled Lyle and then what Frazier did to Quarry.

    Lyle could be out worked. His stamina was questionable at the pace Frazier would set.

    I agree. It`s far fetched. The only version of Frazier that Lyle could bomb out would be the one from 1981 when he fought Jumbo Cummings. That`s not even a lock.

    It wouldn`t be fun to watch. The Joe Frazier that fought Ali in Manila in 1975 would have battered Ron Lyle into submission. It would have been a one sided fight. I would have gotten no enjoyment from it as Ron Lyle was a nice fella. He wouldn`t have lasted 10 rounds with Joe on his best day.

    I remember Lyle talking about Frazier in the facing Ali documentary...he spoke of Smoke with respect, reverence...almost awe. Lyle seemed to respect Frazier considerably more than certain posters on here.

    Lyle's tone suggested to me he would not be as confident of blowing Frazier away earlier than those particular posters on here believe...

    As for the question of ducking Foster, Lyle and Shavers, two points spring to mind for me;

    10 these were all knocked off by Quarry, who was clearly for these guys the gatekeeper to get to Frazier.

    2) Why would a guy who fought Foreman TWICE duck Foster, Shavers & Lyle?

    The 76 Lyle who lost 2 out of 3 bouts, winning only against some handpicked bum?
