And Ali had no punching power left at that stage. Absolutely none. He came much closer to stopping Ernie than he come to stopping Neon Leon over two tries. That says something.

Shavers doesn't last 15 with Frazier. His one chance is to take Frazier out first. Don't think he would, but being a come forward fighter against such a puncher is always a risky proposition.

He had Shavers hurt the last 30 seconds of the fight because Shavers left himself open for a counter left right which staggered him. If this would have occurred mid round Ali would have probably stopped Shavers in that final round.

Absolutely. Let me expand. For me first career Foreman = young Foreman, second career = old Foreman. First career would have been a better term by me, for sure.

Ok so Lyle drops Louis. Does he beat him?

So Larry Holmes also struggles greatly with Lyle, in sparring. Does Holmes beat him?

Lyle makes easy work of Marciano with an early stoppage?

I'm starting to think i have to make room for Ron Lyle in my Top 10 Heavyweights of All Time list.

Newsflash - Since you obviously have no idea, Holmes and Shavers actually fought TWICE. Shavers was stopped ;)

Also, go back and view the amount of punishment an aged Frazier took before being stopped by Ali. You mind find it to be substancially more than Foreman took ;)

When did Shavers go 15 rounds with Larry Holmes?

If you are going to go around attempting to treat people like fools at least get your basics right

Yeah, back then at that point if you had told me what the remainder of his career would look like, including his second career, I would have thought you were crazy

" so wait, he's going to lose to Jimmy Young, I have a vision in which he sees God, and retire , then gain about a hundred pounds over 10 years come back, shave his head, and make more money than he ever did in boxing selling a grill that goes on your counter. Oh yeah he went back the heavyweight title at 48."

Definitely fiction isn't it hahahahahaha. One of the hardest to fathom most incredible stories in not only boxing, but sport in general. Sometimes fact is stranger than fiction, as they say.

I watched Lyle all through his career. Watched him train live and in person. Watched him fight Ali, Foreman, ****ey, Quarry and Shavers. Note he lost 4 out of 5 of those bouts.

Lyle was a fearless fighter with a hard right hand that had ko power. Lyle was a decent boxer but generally fairly easy to outbox. Stamina was decent but not great.

Lyle lost most of his major bouts. He beat Shavers in a fantastic bout but stepping up from there produced losses ....Young, Quarry, Foreman, Ali.

He is not beating Marciano, Louis, Holmes. Not a chance. He could not even beat Quarry.
