Up until the 15th round, Ali looked very clumsy and disorganised. On my card, he'd lost a fair few rounds to Bonavena (Yancy Durham had them even going into the 15th, but I think he was just taking the ****) and has been hit more than in any fight previous to that. Bonavena had a good strategy (back away and then suddenly attack) that forced Ali to lead a lot. Had it not been for the 15th round, Ali would have been very discredited going into the FOTC. All it would have taken would have been one more performance like that, and the fight would cease to be seen as a meeting of two near-invincible fighters.
I could give merit to the argument that Frazier was suffering from health problems against George Foreman, and may even have been past his prime by that point. But now however, people are trying to make an argument that he was not at his best against Ali in 1971 as well? This was probably by far the best performance of his career, and frankly I think he looked spectacular. What's next? Frazier had health problems in the olympics?
Than I am a hater. Not many people know this, but they had to drag Fraizer out of the hopstial for the first fight, with a IV in his arm. Fraizr was pretty sick. Amazing Fraizer won the fight.
Frazier of the 1st Ali fight was peak, but he declined after that fight because of the instant worldwide fame of beating Ali and the heavy partying schedule
I agree with this statement 100%. Against Ali he was at his positive peak, physically, mentally, and everything else. But after this fight he was never the same.:good
We must also rember Fraizer was blind in one eye in the Ali fight. Ali lost to a 1 arm, 1 eye, blind fighter.
OK, just be quiet while you have some dignity left. Frazier was half blind in one eye, so he could still see some things from that eye. Second, where do you get this information that Frazier was one-armed? He had two arms doofus. Never have I seen a Frazier fight and seen a man with one limb, he had two arms on his body and he used both arms. He may have used the left more, but he had a right hand on his body and he used it plenty. Quit posting these biased replies.
