This thread reminded me that if Patterson had faced Frazier at any point we probably would've gotten the greatest infighting in modern heavyweight history. I mean can you imagine the war of hooks the men would have fought.

Below is my ATG heavyweight top ten I recently did for another thread. I have Frazier at seven but I can see arguments for moving him as far down as 11 or 12. By the time their done Usyk and / or Fury may pass him as well.

    1. Ali
    2. Louis
    3. Holmes
    4. Lewis
    5. W. Klitschko
    6. Johnson
    7. Frazier
    8. Tyson
    9. Marciano
    10. Holyfield

We were close to getting it if only Patterson edged out Ellis which I think he did, his stock would have gone up as well as the first 3-time HW champ, would have improved both fighter's resumes as well.

It can only be those obsessed with size who don`t have Joe in the top 10,the man was a beast and certainly an all time great

Frazier was great in his own era but no better than the 3rd best man of the 1970's. He is has not been in my top ten for a while based in who beat him, and how he struggled to beat his better competition. It's true that he avoided punchers in general. He's is a small heavyweight who would struggle in the 1990's and is too small and limited to matched up with the skilled super heavyweights like Bowe, Lewis, Klitschko, and maybe Fury. There is a ton of talent on the way up, and just one of my top 15 heavyweight prospects is close in size and style to Frazier. He's a young Russian though so expect the usual suspects greeting him with antipathy. But he has top speed, and like Frazier he willing take one or two blows to land his own and risk it. I don't think he is a top grade A prospect due to his size, but he won the world amateur championships at super heavy.

Yeah me too, I only make a list if I'm responding to a particular topic and even then it's something that would probably change a lot as I watch & read more.

Consider Frazier this way -- imagine him fighting modern day at cruiser.

Having the single greatest victory in division history carries a lot of weight with my judgement.
