This is a rare interview that was released today. RIP champ. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmEg_ornkVQ[/ame]
A fighter who leads with his best shot, can double it up like a jab, can time and land hooks fast like jabs at any range would be a match for Tyson. It is not outrageous. Nobody is taking frazier out with one clean shot and remember during is 1968-71 prime joe was prety pin point accurate himself. Tyson was faster, had two hands but Frazier would give him pause for thought, once Tyson started thinking he lost focus, he is not intimidating frazier either..
One of the greatest "what if?" for the boxing community. My money is on my man, Joe, in this one. All things considered, the decisive factor is HEART. Joe had plenty, the jury is still out on Mike. I am still persuaded that Kingston Joe would have fought Foreman to the death. In the same situation, Mike would probably have curled into fetal position and cried calling his momma.
Peak Tyson's head movement wouldn't be much help with Frazier unloading those hooks to the body. Joe's cross armed defense was a reasonably effective deterrent against the uppercuts of anybody not named Foreman, and he'd be under Mike's crosses. Smoke didn't particularly like taking on opponents his own size, but he did it well with some frequency. No question who has the heart and stamina in this one. (Can't help comparing McBride-Tyson to Frazier-Cummings here.)
The longer that fight goes with Mike, the more likely it is that he'd beat him. The longer the fight goes with Marciano, the more likely it is that someone will get their career ended in brutal fashion. Joe Frazier has more than a good chance against both men.
Joe start boxing at round 4-6, tyson begin at the first second and do it 12 rounds and, tyson ist harder, faster and have the better defens + TOO mutch skills... that would be a bader beatin than contra foreman
Odd match up to try and predict your basically stuck with two very probable possibilities. The first being: Joe Frazier wins by late stoppage or unanimous decision by weathering the early storm and wearing Tyson down. The second being: Tyson pounces on the slow starting Frazier and gets him out of there in 5 or less. I actually favour the former not because of recent events, although I do feel that if they had 3 fights, both scenarios would take place. The way I see it is, Tyson needed range to jump into combinations. Tyson did little on the inside except clinch and throw a few lousy shots to the body. Inside is where this fight would be fought and Tyson would have no room to breath here, no room to get his combinations off and when Joe starts Smokin' then he ain't gonna be jokin' it's no secret Tysons stamina wasn't the best and it's also not a secret Smokin' Joe's is one of the best. Body shots + poor stamina = good night. Saying this I do see the first round being worrying for Joe. Almost every Frazier fight I have watched he gets hit with a few solid shots early. It's easy to imagine Tyson landing these then that would be that but, I think the Frazier of the Ali fight would manage to get round this, although it would be torrid and he most likely would be knocked down. When Frazier was knocked down though, he still didn't take a step back. That would be great for other fighters but, I think this would have a negative effect on Mike rather than the contrare, who realises that Joe isn't scared of him. All in all very hard match up to predict.
