Excellent video, with fitting music , nice to see these again. Just one thing ,only 2 of those were knockouts,Mathis was on his feet, Ellis was retired by his corner between rounds, and Ramos indicated he had taken enough.
I still consider it a KO if the boxer stands up but cannot continue (shaky legs, concussed, etc) I took liberties with the Ellis KO. Interestingly, Cosell announces the decision as a 4th round KO.
^ Always trying to chip away and take away from Smokin' Joe and his record, anyway he can. Been seeing this pattern for years. Joe must have ****ed him off somewhere along the line. All those fights could be correctly considered knockouts, as reznick has pointed out. In fact, I consider it more impressive that Ramos wanted out that night at MSG, rather then continue on and get counted out later. He knew what he was up against.
The term knocked out comes from"knocked out of time for ten seconds",Ramos quit , Mathis was stopped on his feet,Ellis was retired between rounds sitting on his stool. Frazier's most note worthy knock out over a heavyweight of any stature is over 188lbs Doug Jones ,who had lost his last 2 fights ,would lose one of the next two against Boone Kirkman by stoppage and then retire I'm a fan of Frazier but my eyes are open. What you consider the results of these fights to be is irrelevant and immaterial. The cold fact is they are :NOT KNOCKOUTS Come back when you know what you are talking about.:hi:
TKO/KO whatever. The fact is Joe was brutal at his best and took fighters will as much as anything. Fighters looking to quit or having to be saved by the ref is a credit to Joe and not a knock imo. He made them have to be saved or save themselves by that relentless pressure and hurt he inflicted. Fighters simply didn't want to or couldn't deal with what he brought for 3 minutes of every round. Aggression, heart, power and yes skill. Joe's one of my very favourite fighters to watch for those very qualities he brought.
I remember the Frazier rise very well short prime but Joe was all action and worked the ---t out of that left hook....
My favorites in no particular order are Conners, Foster, Leslie, Daniels, and Zyglwicz. Its funny because Frazier doesnt have a whole lot of clean knockouts. Most of his stoppages he just beat the living **** out of the opponent and the referee stopped it or the opponent quit.
