Frazier in one of his best performances. Frazier pace/pressure and use of angles is superb. His head-movement and calculated relentless attack nullifies Bob Foster's attack while leaving Joe smoking and countering. Foster's big straight is almost non-existant, and any time he risks throwing a wide looping shot he risks the chance of getting countered big. Weight advantage is clear, and while Foster isn't the most proven at HW he is still a good fighter so this shouldn't diminish Joe's performance. Foster also may not hold up physically and in durability at HW but he tries to keep distance and jab with Frazier but to no avail. Great fight where Joe is really smoking early. He makes Foster miss and pay so much. Any other interesting point to look at. Check out Joe Frazier's jab... in and of itself he is out-jabbing Foster.

Kinda' a mismatch............ Foster fenced with a 200+ pound dude who could whack real good....... Yes, Foster circled the ring a tad, but not nearly enough to avoid Frazier........ Really no contest........ Frazier dusted Foster with a pair of hooks in rd 2.... I have this on file..... Frazier wins, but he shouldn't be praised for beating Foster with ease......... I think Foster barely scaled 180 pounds for this 1970 attempt.......

It's not Joe's best win, obviously. Of course, Foster wasn't the greatest HW but he was still a good fighter and it's still a great performance of Frazier. Some wonder what's the difference of pressure versus intelligent/effective pressure. This would be a good fight for those folks to watch. Foster was arguably getting out-jabbed by Frazier. Foster weighed 188 for the contest I believe. Yancy Duram said the scales were 5 pounds too much, though. I think Joe looks about 208-210 as he doesn't look his best in terms of appearance. And Bill, Foster tried circling the ring. He couldn't keep Frazier off him... didn't help that he couldn't land on him.

Truth is, Peter..... Frazier knew all along in training that he'd smoke Foster like a Kool....... Frazier had NO fear of Bobby......... But, Frazier knew this fight would make some $$$ and that is why Frazier was happy to oblige Foster.....

Frazier had no fear of anyone. I don't doubt that he thought he would blast him away. Still doesn't take away from the fact that he takes every weapon away from Bob and out-jabs him. I still rank it in Frazier's top 5 performances. It's definitely within the FOTC, Frazier vs Ellis I, Frazier vs Quarry I, and Frazier vs Chuvalo fights. Even though where talking about Foster in this case, Frazier started faster than ever really. Of course, the opposition certainly helps.

    Pete,

Frazier took Foster's tools away cuz he was too strong physically for Foster................. Frazier knew Foster had power at 170 to 180 pounds, but at 200 pounds, Frazier knew Foster's power was not gonna bother him at all....... If you sense you opponent / victim cannot hurt you, you then begin to walk him down and put pressure on him..... Frazier did just that...... Frazier was willing to land his bombs without any fear of being countered........ Thus, Foster was dead meat...............

Nobody really knew how Foster would be at HW, especially how much of a punch he would have. You act like Frazier just walked Foster down which he didn't which is precisely the point of this thread. The effective aggression Frazier put. He didn't take shots and just overwhelm him physically. He did so intelligently without getting hit much. Where do you rank this in terms of Frazier's best performances?

Yes, he fought differently in this fight. He certainly wasn't his usual self slow-starting self. He came out right away and overwhelmed Foster.

Indeed. Where do you rank it among Frazier's best performances? A top 5 one?

Frazier would've knocked the block off of Lewis and both the Klitschko's. I don't give a **** how much smaller he was.

    Pea,

I scored a dime-bag of some stoney pot at my bros. Ranch earlier tonight.... But if you think Frazier could beat / KO the Klit's and Lenny Lewis in a time machine, then you need to put the hash pipe down and come up for some air... Cheers...

Bill, explain to Pea how you justify ranking Vitali the #6 HW of all time? Yes, I saw you say that.

And if you think Vitali is the #6 HW of all time, you need to be entered into a higher security facility. You're supposed to be tied up to your cell bed right about now. You shouldn't be watching fights in the state you're in.

I pick Frazier over both Klitscho's too. I think Lewis is a fight.
