Hell of a fight. I think Frazier would win this by knockout late, but he might take some punches to get there. Frazier was just a higher caliber fighter than Williams, but then who is as high as Frazier. It is a hard one to figure. Williams blasting out Frazier is a possibility also, but I never thought he had the Foreman type of power many others thought he had.

Frazier batter's Williams. Cleve was no Foreman ,Joe picks up the pace and chops him down in 6

With the exception of beating a young Ernie Terrell, which is a good win, Williams never fared well when stepping up.
He gets put into more fantasy matchups against greats than anyone else with such a pedestrian record. Why not do Bruce Seldon vs Joe Frazier or Kubrat Pulev vs Frazier.
To be fair to Williams he was never the same after being shot by police and it was after that happened he fought the majority of his “name” opponents.
Satterfield ko’d him when he was very young, and Liston stopped him both times, no shame in that, but their isn’t enough evidence to suggest Williams could hang with Frazier. Frazier stops him at some point.

Frazier with ease. Williams' reputation is all out of proportion with his actual accomplishments, and comes from the fact that Liston cited him as one of this toughest fights.

And Terrell bracketing him with Liston for power. I pick Joe, but Williams would be dangerous al the while he was there.

I agree he would be dangerous. Lot of testimony from various fighters to the legitimacy of The BigCat’s power. However his resume is lacking and it’s hard to pick him over someone as accomplished (and determined) as Frazier.

Agreed there are a lot of names missing from his resume but.

How many wanted to fight him?
He was shot whilst in his prime.

I believe the anecdotes about Williams power, because you have too many fighters saying the same thing, to dismiss them all.

Be that as it may, he did not translate it into stoppage wins over rated opponents, in the way that he would need to do to be favored over Frazier.

Given what is on the table in terms of records, we have no choice but to install Frazier as favorite.

Although this could be a case of styles make fights. If his punching power can be compared to Foreman's then what happens when Frazier gets hit flush?

Again, I would need to see a bit more from Williams, before I was prepared to roll with the styles argument.

If he had a few more good wins, I might start to pluck up the courage!
